Movie Synopsis, Analysis vs. J. Campbell Monomyth and my Life Story by Jackelyn Aspiras

Hi Prof Jorge,
I'm happy to be able to share with you and other people one of my favorite books/movies written by Nicholas Sparks— "A Walk To Remember".
Best Regards,
Jackelyn Aspiras
A Walk to Remember

Synopsis
A Walk to Remember is an exceptional movie. It is not just one of those typical chick flick movies about a girl changing a guy's life. There's more to it.
It follows the conventions of what a romantic movie should be, with lovers' quarrels, obstacles that need to be overcome and a happy ending, but what stands out to me about this movie is apart from the conventions it follows, it also has a heroes' journey in it. The hero journey has always been an interesting idea to me, and to see it in this movie, I believe it made it ten times better.
Landon Carter is the one that experiences this whole hero journey in this movie. He's the one that fulfilled the steps of the hero journey. The twist here is that, even though he went through the hero's journey, he wasn't the hero—Jamie Sullivan was. He goes through the whole journey to show that Jamie Sullivan is essentially his hero.

A BEAUTIFUL MIND - A HERO'S JOURNEY movie synopsis and analysis using Joseph Campbells Monomyth

THE STAGES OF THE HERO'S JOURNEY
' A BEAUTIFUL MIND"  film
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVamZHi0ojQ
The film "A Beautiful Mind" is, true to its title, a beautiful story.  The scenes depict a journey, very much approximating Joseph Campbell's, Hero with a Thousand Faces – that the main character traverses the stages of the hero's journey.  The face of a leader with an adventure went through the twelve stages…and so I did!  Toward the end, another one of the "thousand faces" emerged…the Leader Belle.
Consolidated and Reflected by: Belina S. Katigbak
1.) The hero is introduced in his ORDINARY WORLD.
In 1947, John Nash (Crowe) arrives at Princeton University. He is co-recipient, with Martin Hansen (Lucas), of the prestigious Carnegie Scholarship for mathematics. At a reception, he meets a group of other promising math and science graduate students, Richard Sol (Goldberg), Ainsley (Jason Gray-Stanford), and Bender (Rapp). He also meets his roommate Charles Herman (Bettany), a literature student.

Leader Dr. Suzette K. Munoz's Mulan Hero's Journey in relation TO Campbellss Hero has a thousand faces

MULAN HERO'S JOURNEY IN RELATION TO CAMPBELL'S HERO HAS A THOUSAND FACES
Introduction:
I chose Mulan because she is one of the favorite characters our Church has been emulating in our lives as workers.  Mulan is a great warrior who sacrificed her life to save both her father and her country. In the same way, we as workers of the church are warriors for the work of God here on earth.  We fight for God's Word to be shared to people so we could help save souls through discipleship. I am proud to say I am a warrior, made courageous by God, to sacrifice my life for Him.
SUMMARY PLOT OF MULAN, THE MOVIE
Mulan is a girl, the only child of her honored family. When the Huns invaded China, one man from every family is called to arms. Mulan's father, who has an old wound and cannot walk properly, decides to fight for his country and the honor of his family, though it is clear that he will not survive an enemy encounte
Mulan, who just got rejected by the matchmaker because she had set her on fire, decides to prove that she is worth something and steals away to fit in her father's place in the Chinese army. She prays to her family's ancestors for protection and luck before leaving as a man in her father's armor with her family's horse. The ancestors awoke and decided to send Mushu, a little dishonored dragon to aid Mulan in her quest.
Weeks later, Mulan and the other troopers have survived the training camp and are on the way north to stop the huns. After being spotted and pursued by the enemies, an impasse situation in the mountains forces Mulan to come up with an idea. But then, her real gender will no longer be a secret. She decides to risk everything in order to save China.
Mulan is praised by the Emperor and the people of China, who all bow to her as an unprecedented honor. While she accepts the Emperor's crest and Shan Yu's sword as gifts, she politely declines his offer to be his advisor and asks to return to her family.
She returns home and presents these gifts to her father, but he is more overjoyed to have his daughter back safely. Li Shang, who has become enamored with Mulan, soon arrives under the guise of returning her helmet, but accepts the family's invitation for dinner. Mushu is granted a position as a Fa family guardian by the ancestors amid a returning celebration.
CHARACTERISTICS OF MULAN, THE HERO THAT PROVES HER LEADERSHIP

AVATAR - Campbell's Movie Review by Leader Michael Manauis

"Awvea ultxari oengeyä, Nawma Sa'nok lrrtok siveiyi (May the Great Mother smile upon our first meeting.)"
The plot of the story discusses that the Earth's Natural resources had been depleted leading to severe energy crisis. The Resource Development Administration mines for a valuable mineral - "unobtanium" in Pandora. Pandora is a planet whose atmosphere is poisonous to humans, is inhabited by Na'vi.
To explore Pandora, scientists used "AVATAR", - a remote controlled biological body created from the DNA of the Na'vi and humans. With the AVATAR, humans are able to breath the Pandora's air.
Jake Sully is a crippled war veteran and a former marine. As a cripple, it seems that in the movie he has no ambitions; he is drunk and gets into trouble. (Campbell's – hero in his ordinary world)

The 3 Idiots movie as model for Joseph Campbell's Archetype by Leader Jose Manuel Pontillas

Sir, resending my movie analysis in word format. Thank you.

THE THREE IDIOTS
By Jose Manuel M. Pontillas
"FOLLOW YOUR BLISS"
The movie "Three Idiots" is an Indian movie released in 2009 and was adapted from the novel "Five Point Someone" by Chetan Bhagat.  It is a comic, light hearted film which offers serious insights about life, learning and friendship.  It tackles about the most important human pursuit which is self-actualization.  The message of Joseph Campbell to "Follow your Bliss" is perfectly related to this movie.  It shows how some students are force to pursue a career not of their willing but later on managed to go for what they are passionate about and ended up being successful.  It also tackles how some school and college professor place too much pressure on students and emphasize ranks instead of love for learning.

Leader Anne Boese's movie analyis, Joseph Campbell, and my Life Story "Lord of the Rings"

I am happy to post my favorite movie of all time and share my take on Joseph Campbell's hero has a thousand faces.
Below is the link "Hero has a thousand faces on Lord of the Rings"

The Hero has a Thousand Faces
"LORD OF THE RINGS"
Hero: Frodo Baggins
Synopsis: Set in the fictional world of Middle-earth, the films follow the hobbit as he and a Fellowship embark on a quest to destroy the One Ring, and thus ensure the destruction of its maker, the Dark Lord Sauron. An ancient Ring thought lost for centuries has been found, and through a strange twist in fate has been given to a small Hobbit named Frodo. When Gandalf discovers the Ring is in fact the One Ring of the Dark Lord Sauron, Frodo must make an epic quest to the Cracks of Doom in order to destroy it! However he does not go alone. He is joined by Gandalf, Legolas the elf, Gimli the Dwarf, Aragorn, Boromir and his three Hobbit friends Merry, Pippin and Samwise. Through mountains, snow, darkness, forests, rivers and plains, facing evil and danger at every corner the Fellowship of the Ring must go. Their quest to destroy the One Ring is the only hope for the end of the Dark Lords reign!
Moral of the Movie: The ring symbolizes power; there were few people in the story that can withstand the call of the ring. Majority of the characters were having a hard time fighting the call of the ring or power. The ring consumes their mind to be evil. Only Frodo was strong enough to control the ring. Just like in real life, weak men get easily corrupted with temptation and power. A pure heart and mind can endure the call of evil.

The Hero's Journey "the Ten Commandments " from Dr. Ma. Lourdes Lagunilla

The Hero's Journey Outline
The Hero's Journey is a pattern of narrative identified by the American scholar Joseph Campbell that appears in drama, storytelling, myth, religious ritual, and psychological development.  It describes the typical adventure of the archetype known as The Hero, the person who goes out and achieves great deeds on behalf of the group, tribe, or civilization.
Campbell gives a condensed version of the basic hero myth in chapter IV, "The Keys", of THE HERO WITH A THOUSAND FACES  Every story-teller bends the myth to his or her own purpose. That's why the hero has a thousand faces.
The hero is introduced in his ORDINARY WORLD where he receives the CALL TO ADVENTURE.  He is RELUCTANT at first to CROSS THE FIRST THRESHOLD where he eventually encounters TESTS, ALLIES and ENEMIES.  He reaches the INNERMOST CAVE where he endures the SUPREME ORDEAL.  He SEIZES THE SWORD or the treasure and is pursued on the ROAD BACK to his world.  He is RESURRECTED and transformed by his experience.  He RETURNS to his ordinary world with a treasure, boon, or ELIXIR to benefit his world.

Analysis of 12 Angry Men vs. Joseph Campbell, and my Life Story by Leader VP Corazon Guevarraa

Assignment in Leadership for Session 3
Leadership in Movies
Ma. Corazon Q. Guevarra

Twelve Angry Men

Synopsis: Right after the closing arguments in a murder trial of an 18-year old Spanish-American boy, the case is now in the hands of  the 12 members of the jury. They meet at the jury room where they must deliberate, and decide if  the boy is guilty or innocent of murdering his abusive father.  With a guilty verdict, it would mean death for the accused.  As the twelve jurors try to reach a unanimous decision while isolated in a room, one juror (Henry Fonda) casts substantial doubt on the evidential elements  of the case. Personal issues soon rise to the surface such as jurors' complex personalities (emphatic, altruistic, egoistic, discriminating, arrogant),and conflict threatens to disrupt the delicate process that will decide the fate of the boy. What begins as an open and shut case of murder soon becomes a mini-drama of each of the juror's prejudgment and presumptions about the accused, and one another.

Review of the archetypes of Joseph Campbell - "The Hero With a thousand Faces"

'Quamplurimi et quam aptisimi" (As many as possible of the very best)

In case you have not read the book, or has not done
the assigned readings, please click the link to  the summary of Joseph Campbell   Joseph Campbell Archetypes

Do you agree with the archetypes?

A Practical Guide to THE HERO WITH A THOUSAND FACES by Joseph Campbell ----------------------------------------------------------------- In the long run, the most influential book of the 20th Century may turn out to be Joseph Campbell's THE HERO WITH A THOUSAND FACES.

It's certainly true that the book is having a major impact on writing and story-telling, but above all on movie-making. Aware or not, filmmakers like John Boorman, George Miller, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, and Francis Coppola owe their successes to the ageless pattern that Joseph Campbell identifies in the book. The ideas in the book are an excellent set of analytical tools. With them you can compose a story to meet any situation, a story that will be dramatic, entertaining, and psychologically true. With them you can always determine what's wrong with a story that's floundering, and you can find a better solution to almost any story problem by examining the pattern laid out in the book. There's nothing new in the book. The ideas in it are older than the Pyramids, older than Stonehenge, older than the earliest cave painting. Campbell's contribution was to gather the ideas together, recognize them, articulate them, name them. He exposed the pattern for the first time, the pattern that lies behind every story ever told. Campbell is a mythographer -- he writes about myths. What he discovered in his study of world myths is that THEY ARE ALL BASICALLY THE SAME STORY -- retold endlessly in infinite variation. He discovered that all story-telling, consciously or not, follows the ancient patterns of myth, and that all stories, from the crudest jokes to the highest flights of literature, can be understood in terms of the "HERO MYTH"; the "MONOMYTH" whose principles he lays out in the book. Campbell was a student of the Swiss psychologist Carl Jung, and the ideas in THE HERO WITH A THOUSAND FACES are often described as Jungian. The book is based on Jung's idea of the "Archetypes" constantly repeating characters who occur in the dreams of all people and the myths of all cultures. Jung believed that these archetypes are reflections of the human mind -- that our minds divide themselves into these characters to play out the drama of our lives. The repeating characters of the hero myth, such as the young hero, the wise old man, the shape-shifting woman, and the shadowy nemesis, are identical with the archetypes of the human mind, as shown in dreams. That's why myths, and stories constructed on the mythological model, are always psychologically true. Such stories are true models of the workings of the human mind, true maps of the psyche. They are psychologically valid and realistic even when they portray fantastic, impossible, unreal events. This accounts for the universal power of such stories. Stories built on the model of THE HERO OF A THOUSAND FACES have an appeal that can be felt by everyone, because they spring from a universal source in the collective unconscious, and because they reflect universal concerns. They deal with universal questions like "Why was I born?" "What happens when I die?" "How can I overcome my life problems and be happy?" The ideas in the book can be applied to understanding any human problem. They are a great key to life as well as being a major tool for dealing more effectively with a mass audience. Christ, Hitler, Mohammed, and Buddha all understood the principles in the book and applied them to influence millions. If you want to understand the ideas behind the HERO MYTH, there's no substitute for actually reading the book. It's an experience that has a way of changing people. It's also a good idea to read a lot of myths, but it amounts to the same thing since Campbell spends most of the book illustrating his point by re-telling old myths. Campbell gives a condensed version of the hero myth on p. 245. However, since he uses some specialized technical terms that require going back to his examples in earlier chapters to find out what he's talking about, I've taken the liberty of amending his outline slightly, re-telling the hero myth in my own way. Feel free to do the same. Every story-teller bends the myth to his own purpose. That's why THE HERO HAS A THOUSAND FACES
