Have you watched the movie Heneral Luna. What leadership lessons did you get from Heneral Luna?

Leadership Lesson from Heneral Luna

Movie Review of Heneral Luna and quotable quotes

Interesting Facts about Heneral Luna - fearsome even in death

The fate of Heneral Luna and Andres Bonifacio in the hands of men loyal to Aguinaldo lessens the glowing accomplishment of the claimed first president of the Republic.  As we say about Palparan, "today's hero tomorrow's villain"

Who was the villain and who was the hero?   But Heneral Luna was also a scientist, a writer, a strategist, and  originator of many first -  a military academy,  training of special forces, guerilla warfare

  1. 1. A leader is great in planning, leading, organizing and controlling.

General Luna showed his mastery in planning, leading, organizing and controlling the attacks and defense of the military. He would always gather his team to plan for and prepare alternative actions for the war. He was also keen in every detail of the plan in order to win the battle.

    2. A leader is a great disciplinarian.

As a leader, General Luna was a disciplinarian. He said to President Emilio Aguinaldo in the movie that “Pabayaan mo akong magturo ng tamang disiplina!" There was also a scene wherein one of his troops did not follow him, so he was able to discipline him by giving what is due to that person. But he was able to lead his team despite their limited skills and experience.

    1. The ability to discipline is great skill of a leader. Followers dislike it though. The secret of successful companies in Good to Great (find time to read this) is Discipline. Thus 4ds of leadership; dedication, determination, devotion and discipline. Thanks leader Siarina for thoughtful comnment

  2. Nice comment madam secretary, In addition, History repeats itself, sometimes the books tell the stories of their authors which means history becomes his-story, this is not a jargon to every historian or historists in a right term, this even happened during the time of WW II, wherein not all conformed with the NAZI as represented by Adolf Hitler, the truth was hitler was an artist had it not his sponsor prior to the presentation of his artworks was killed, was succumbed to lead the party's propaganda and in addition he incited a cause just to unite the dispersed aryan race but there were german nationalists who did not conform this cause since they were aware of the outcome of this endeavor.Hitler had a an army called the SA or the storm troop or the "sturmabteilong" if my memory serves me right but were annihilated due to the plot of his assassination, thereby creating his own loyal men , the SS or the "schutzstaffen' to be free from internal threat. Other than that, the german nationalists wanted him to be ousted but to no avail, most of them were executed, wherein some of them were noted putting them into his-story. We have to understand that there was a war, not only an offensive war but internal war as well, anything that happened was a spoil of war. Some just wanted to be in ranks, others were just forced to be or to do such things for they did not have a choice, while some wanted their name to be remembered while the rest where in the median but the above the rest, got the real intention of preserving their fatherland. As Jean Paul Sartes said.. "there is really no freedom at all" since option is just a state of mind, because to choose not to choose is to choose not to choose, therefore, still you are choosing not to choose"..which means we are succumbed to choose even we don't want to choose. So, which do we choose to believe?

    2. Allow me to make a comment on Sartes. It is great to be in suspended state of animation at times. We too have to make a stand in crisis; for or against. That is why we had an exercise on how things can represent you

  3. General Antonio Luna is the perfect epitome of Filipino courage and strength. He stood by his position being a general and truthfully depicted the title of a military general. So brave and strong. As if, he doesn't fear death just to stand by his principles as a true Filipino. After being under the Spanish regime for 300 years, he cannot swallow the fact of being conquered and controlled again by another nation - the Americans. He taught us the valor of heroism. He was very aggressive moved by his wits and strength. He was brutally murdered and some writers might have overly described it, with 40 bullets or more, he was still able to move and have shown that he is willing to fight until his last breath. Such last move made his assailants stepped backward showing cowardice. What a true heroic act!

  4. I have seen the movie Heneral Luna together with my family. It was a requirement among students of Ateneo de Davao University, so might as well accompany my teens. The most compelling statement of General Luna was, "We have far greater enemies than the Americans, OURSELVES!" The story revolves around this theme or reality. The lesson there was in union there is strength, the other way around happened with us Filipinos during that period. Sad to say, it still lingers today and is very visible in our society. This is the reason why there is a very slow development of our country and I don't see any remedy now or in the near future unless each on of us Filipinos will change. I started it with myself, hope others will follow.

  5. Leadership from within. Who needs enemy kung di tayo magkakasundo. There was clearly politics at the Revolutionary Govt, having no clear goals and objectives at the start, and even clear leadership. Unang power grab yon vs Bonifacio. Please see post on reality of power and leadership. Thanks leader Romy, Jr
