Battleship America 2012 as model for Joseph Campbell's Monomyth

'Quamplurimi et quam aptisimi" (As many as possible of the very best)

The movie is both an example of journey to leadership and example of  Joseph Campbell's the Hero has a Thousand Faces."  This is a sci fi and inspired by a game.

Lt. Hopper evolved from a problem Naval Officer to an ingenious leader when their ships captain died.  He became a situational leader.  He was transformed.   He developed  a way to neutralize the alien, when he found out that they could not stand intense light.  He made sure that they fired their guns when they were blinded by light.   He also found a way to disable the force field of the aliens, ie by destroying the radar which was used by aliens to command their ships underwater. He ultimately became the hero of the movie, up from an underperforming, bungling naval officer

The most interesting ingenuity by Lt. Hopper was when he commandered a half century old battleship USS Missouri using the aging senior crew to give the final fatal blow to the aliens.  And his famous speech:   "We all die;  we all gonna die but not today"  See how he outmaneuvered the aliens by dropping the anchor

As in Campbell, he gets married to the heroine, the Admiral's daughter.  The Admiral had a nice way of saying that he caved in to have Hopper to be his in law....(He disliked Hopper for being a such a poor officer)  It would seem that the movie follows Campbell archetype of the hero.
