MULAN HERO'S JOURNEY IN RELATION TO CAMPBELL'S HERO HAS A THOUSAND FACES
Introduction:
I chose Mulan because she is one of the favorite characters our Church has been emulating in our lives as workers. Mulan is a great warrior who sacrificed her life to save both her father and her country. In the same way, we as workers of the church are warriors for the work of God here on earth. We fight for God's Word to be shared to people so we could help save souls through discipleship. I am proud to say I am a warrior, made courageous by God, to sacrifice my life for Him.
SUMMARY PLOT OF MULAN, THE MOVIE
Mulan is a girl, the only child of her honored family. When the Huns invaded China, one man from every family is called to arms. Mulan's father, who has an old wound and cannot walk properly, decides to fight for his country and the honor of his family, though it is clear that he will not survive an enemy encounte
Mulan, who just got rejected by the matchmaker because she had set her on fire, decides to prove that she is worth something and steals away to fit in her father's place in the Chinese army. She prays to her family's ancestors for protection and luck before leaving as a man in her father's armor with her family's horse. The ancestors awoke and decided to send Mushu, a little dishonored dragon to aid Mulan in her quest.
Weeks later, Mulan and the other troopers have survived the training camp and are on the way north to stop the huns. After being spotted and pursued by the enemies, an impasse situation in the mountains forces Mulan to come up with an idea. But then, her real gender will no longer be a secret. She decides to risk everything in order to save China.
Mulan is praised by the Emperor and the people of China, who all bow to her as an unprecedented honor. While she accepts the Emperor's crest and Shan Yu's sword as gifts, she politely declines his offer to be his advisor and asks to return to her family.
She returns home and presents these gifts to her father, but he is more overjoyed to have his daughter back safely. Li Shang, who has become enamored with Mulan, soon arrives under the guise of returning her helmet, but accepts the family's invitation for dinner. Mushu is granted a position as a Fa family guardian by the ancestors amid a returning celebration.
Mulan is considered to be a leader because:
* She took her father's place in the army
* She saved China

MY LIFE'S STORY IN RELATION TO CAMPBELLS' HERO HAS A THOUSAND FACES
DEPARTURE
• Call to Adventure
I departed from my old life, my comfort zone, somehow from family too, to heed to God's call to start the outreach ministry of BOL Pampanga. This meant giving much of my time for the work of God, bringing my life to a new adventure with God in His plans for BOLP. This new adventure entailed sharing God's work to win souls for him through discipleship.
• Refusal of the Call
There was actually no refusal when I accepted the call. It was more of a hesitance or skepticism if I will be able to do the work especially that I was only a baby Christian then. Also, there was a lot of ponderings as I will also be missing a considerable amount of time from my family & private practice.
• Supernatural Aid
Through out the journey that I've been called to, and together with all the other complexities in my life, i.e. family, profession, community, organizations i.e., I gained all the strength and wisdom I needed from God alone. He has given me the right persons to be with in my journey. Without God's help, I would not have successfully completed my journey.
· Crossing the First Threshold
In my first step in organizing the church or outreach ministry, I already had convinced myself that I should leave my comfort zone and give all my time, energy, financial resources for this journey. It was a very difficult and tedious task the first several months of preparations. The center was set up and everything was put in place.
INITIATION
• Road of Trials
It was not an easy task continuing with the ministry. Challenges and difficulties came one after the other. Problems with members, workers, and even pastors would come left and right. We had to go through a lot of challenges to reach out to people and disciple to them to win their souls for Jesus. Finances was one of our major problems, and most of us workers especially me were drained. I was being persecuted why I traded my comfortable life with this journey.
• Meeting with the Goddess
I was almost burnout with the responsibilities on my shoulders for the work of the church. But God never failed to support me and show His love for me throughout all these times. Being continually embraced by God's powerful love, I remained focused on the eyes of Jesus alone.
• Atonement with the Father
God has continued to encourage me to go on with my journey even if I felt I did not deserve to be called. And as He promises, Philippians1:6, "being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." I placed my complete trust in the Lord knowing that He will guide me all the way.
RETURN
• Crossing the Return Threshold
After 15 years giving all my life for the ministry, the Lord has raised new leaders and givers in the church. Finally, I have started returning to my life, and asking forgiveness from my family for having deprived them of the time that could have been shared with them. But my family understands the importance of sacrificing one's life for the work of God.
· Master of Two Worlds With all that I have been through in my new life as a Christian for 19 years now, God has taught me to go back to my normal life as a Discipler in the church, and also live my life as a normal human being in the outside world, but of course maintaining the Christian values that will keep me faithful to the work of God, and to continue to finish strong in my walk with Him. The journey still continues up to now, and God has gifted me with strong faith in Him, a gift of generosity, a gift of empathy and He honed me to be a servant-leader.
· Freedom to Live Now I am free to live the life I wanted to live….a life having Jesus at the center of my heart….a life being lived to the fullest for the work of God and others…..to live a life of a servant-leader for all eternity.
I will continue to be a hero in God's own definition of a hero. I survived the pains and the challenges; I remained faithful to my calling, and I stood tall. And I will continue to dwell in God's love and strength forever to overcome whatever trials will still come for the rest of my life
Thank you so much Prof for all the learnings.
