Nearly a month ago, last October 24, 2015, this author made an article on traits of a Traits of a Filipino leader  It is a collection of articles from John Clements.

And the main part of the article is as follows:

"The contributors are:    Grace Alcid, Mario Biscocho, Arus Metin, Kristine Brisenio, and Neil Binalla

Grace Alcid says that the trait must embrace the cultural influence of Spain, USA, and Malay.

Mario Biscocho is academic in approach and says that the Filipino leader must be authentic, has clear vision, firm resolve, , inspiration and common goal, fierce resolve, endurance and tenacity,  realistic tenacity.

Metin posits Level 5 Leadership (Good to Great)

Kristine Brisenio talks about good character, motivator, and inspiration

Neil Binalla discusses the common Filipino traits:  pakikisama, hiya (from IPC - Mary Hollsteiner stuff) ningas cogon that can be both bane and boon to Filipino leaders.  Those who practiced pakikisama to their constituents ended up in jail.  Those who also  practice tayo tayo  and utang na loob (paying back political defects)"

As you can see these are generic traits and characters, and Bischocho, Metin, Brisenio talk about generic and universal traits of leaders.  Binalla is the only one who attempts to really "Filipinize" the traits of such Filipino leader

This post tried to make one infographic for Filipino leadership qualities, using the triad of leadership contents:   purpose character, and competence and translating the same to Filipino.

Traits of Filipino leadership  -   Watawat ng Kagitingan

Character -    Katangian

Competence -  Kakayahan

Purpose   -   Adhikain which could be:

1.  Poverty elimination

2.  Raising income levels/livelihood

3.  Raising standards of living

4. Reducing mortality from disaster

5.  Improving peace and order

Having a clear purpose which a leader would communicate and pound on the table is very essential to succeed as a leader4.

Authentic Self -  Kaibuturan and being responsible to :  Bayan (town)   Bansa (Country) and Bathala (God)
as part of adhikain (purpose)   Here one can understand that we can not really have a very clear purpose as the 3 corners of adhikain may contradict one another, or diametrically opposed to one another.  Filipino leader may find integrating the 3:  bayan, bansa, at Bathala challenging.  Thus, Moslems settlers who may later bomb and maim the citizens are welcome.  (Vs Putins point of view that the ISIS should be hunted and no one should be left alive {contrary to Bathala teachings})

This should be a helpful guide for someone seeking elective public office and should level up qualities and capabilities, capacity, and even purpose of our leaders who seem to focus only on their personal goals, and within the box of their territories;   globalization and modernization is not one of their goals

The Kakayahan (COMPETENCE) at the blue portion of the flag containst the following abilities:

1.  Magaling magplano
2.  Marunong magdesisyon
3.  Malalim mag isip (analytical, circumspect)
4.  Magaling magpatupad (great in execution)
5.  May pinag aralan (educated - the Ren man in confucianism)
6.  Mahusay magmaneho (an administrator manager)
7.  May koneksyon  (with networks)
8.  Maguling manuri  (critical and analytical, deep)
9.  Magaling magsalita (great communicator)
10 .  Maparaan (resourceful, innovator)
11.   May sistema (sysematic, operational thinker, process oriented)
12,  Organisado  (organized)
13,   Malayo pananaw (visionary)

The Katangian (CHARACTER) if a Filipino Leader consist of the following:

1.  MakaDios
2.  Makatao
3. Mapagmahal
4.  Nakikiisa
5.  Maunawain
6.  Magalang
7.  Marunong makinig
8   Mabait
9.  Masayahin
10.  Mapagkumbaba
11.  Matalino
12.  Moral
13,  Masunurin
14,  Tapat
15.  Matapang
16.  Matiisin
17   Matiyaga
18.  Masipag
19.  May paninindigan

This is by no means complete;  it is a work in progress. Our theory on leadership is evolving, and changing as times change. As Buddha observed  that the I which is affected by the external will never be complete and perfect
