All about discipline:  people, thought, and action (execution)

Discipline and obedience

Two Cebu City leaders said they wanted to be leaders known for their emphasis on discipline.  One is a lady running an equipment  trading company.  The other a gentleman runs a power plant for  a cement factory.  It is understood that in this situation (situational leadership ha6), you need an exacting precise type of leadership. You must remember that the Chernobyl accident was not a technical failure but a  worker simply failed to turn on/off a valve, as required in during a maintenance procedure, the power plant lost water coolant, and consequently melted down.

In Rockwell, when the leadership of Xi Jinping, the president of China was mentioned, ie being totalitarian, a leader could not think how is it possible to have this kind of leadership?  Wont there be rebellion? Or pockets of dissent?  Again, if you were to lead a nation 1.3 billion strong, with past history of wars among tribes and various provinces, with 50 million politburo members, how can you be on top of the heap and control your subordinates the govt and the country? Wont you impose strict discipline and obedience.?

Again somebody would say this is situational and not applicable to other practice of leadership:

1.  James Collins mentioned that successful companies rely on 3 practices:  Good to great companies

DISCIPLINED THOUGHTS

DISCIPLINED PEOPLE

DISCIPLINED EXECUTION

This involves stop doing activities that blur or dissipate resources ie discontinuing businesses or activities that are not within the sweet spot of economic engine, core competence, and what we love doing.

The stop doing was probably the reason why Japan is immune to Muslim extremist terrorism -  they have not allowed Muslim immigration  of activities in Japan, although it is not a written foreign policy. Those who are victims, like US and France, should they stop having the Trojan horses from coming in.?  (Having the enemies coming inside)

2.  In my analysis of Genogram, External and Internal Factors that Shaped my Life, and FIP, many leaders placed great importance of activities that made them practice self discipline:   sports, school work,  family life teachings, walking great distances to go school daily (the longest was 6 km daily!)

3.  The tremendous growth of Singapore has been due to the iron hands policy of Lee Kuan Yew.  A business captain in Cebu who sat beside me in the plane told me that we need a disciplinarian leader even harder than Lee if PHL is to really get going.  His family owns 10 car dealership in the country.  He sharpened his claws in business in a fx company in Australia

4  In the New Testament, there is a story about a Roman Centurion who requested that the Lord Jesus Christ cure his servant.  So Jesus Christ asked the Roman Centurion to lead Him to the Centurion's house so that the servant will be healed.  The Roman Centurion said that that is necessary.  All that Jesus has to do is say it and his servant shall be healed. Because in the Roman Army, all that the officers has to do is say something and that will happen. Jesus Christ, having more superior powers and above everything will do more things that the Roman Officers.

Jesus Heals the Roman Centurion servant

This is a story about faith of the Roman Centurion and obedience. Do religious devotees need to be disciplined and obedient?  Is it required of a leader?

Too much of anything is poisonous and dangerous as we have seen in Heneral Luna movie. Moderation is always the key.  Just the right discipline  Read on Velvet Glove Iron Fist
