Last Saturday, I had a talk before a group of employees, sons and daughters of the owners of an agri venture. It was at the initiative of an uncle who heads the company as the President.  The talk covered:  1. duties and responsibilities of board of directors    2.  leadership by the board of directors  and 3. the future of the chicken business in the Philippines

The first part was the legal and business aspect of managing the business.  What should be the role of the board of directors as the highest governing body of the corporation.  At this aspect, I noted that the current board resisted the new roles as being pointed out in the presentation.  Why do all of these things being prescribed, when there is the President.   The President takes the initiative, he directs and executes.  The Board merely watches, as passive observer.  As in other enterprise which this body tried to assist, the enemy is always from within.   There has to be change from within.

The good thing about the presentation, was this writer noted that there are 3 people whom the President can trust and rely upon.  The President said that what we need are not more knowledge but more passion.  I suggested to the President that this talents must be nurtured.

As for the chicken industry he noted that the opportunity is in the household (90% of the total market) so they left the hri market, and went to the wet market. And now he sees that faster turn over could be made in eggs and he plans to increase the number of layers from current l00,000 to 200,000.  Shall he borrow at 4 to 5% vs margins of 10 to 15% on eggs. But his executive gave the answer. She wants to be sure of the market and doubling the number of layers at once may not synch with their ability to sell

The chicken a la carte presentation resonated well with the President.  As a student of DVM, while in Manila, he noticed the same stuff that a lot of hungry citizens scrounge, scavenge for food, and these were mishandled by the food server.  He took steps that they be handled well as food for the hungry and homeless

                    Pity these children;  what if you were like this when you were young?


Merry Christmas to everyone.  How we wish all people of the world were happy. They are not. 1.3 billion of them, or 1/3 of the world population are hungry and as we saw in Chicken A La Carte,video, 19,000 die daily from hunger.  How we wish this would not happen.  We are supposed to have as our mandate, taking all Gods creation, including our fellow men.

I hope these articles resonate with our passion/mission (RP3) or that it would be a part of that mission

merchandising and pricing skills;  wrong estimate of how much can be sold

or pricing the food out of the reach of many.  Farmers on the other hand

destroy the crops in case of glut/overproduction

The last part of team building last December 12, 2015,   After watching the Chicken A la Carte, a short Indie film that won at Cannes, the leaders were asked to write a commitment on what they can do about this lack of access to the bounty of this earth by many (nearly 50% of the world and country's population.  Many are limited by their attitude - timidity, lack of ambition, fear, lethargy (or laziness) but this is real problem we must face.  Many about 10,000 a day die because of hunger because we waste food.



I happened to meet a German fraulein at the gym of the hotel where I was staying.  I learned that she was on R & R from Borongan Samar.  She works for Caritas an organization that has been in the Philippines for the last two years taking care of Yolanda victims at Borongan.  We should admire these volunteers and workers for being interested in the plight of our brethren who are less fortunate, or who were ravaged by the typhoon.  How about us?  Some take advantage of the situation to earn more for them or we simply do not care.

This post had a lengthy conversation with leader Dovie who is running a 300 bed hospital,  I campaigned to her to help keep costs of health care low, as was expressed by Dr. Kerwin Mark Gubantes on the first day of class.  The take over by multibillion companies of several  well known hospitals has caused the cost of health care to skyrocket.  It is all about profit now and when will it end and increasingly, the very high costs of hospitalization may bankrupt Philhealth, burn holdes in the pockets of many.  The masses can ill afford health care and may not even see a doctor in their lifetime (a herbalist maybe)  Thus I labor with this site:   Cheapcures that focus on preventive medicine other lower cost health strategies.  I am but one who is campaigning for this   As leader Bryan had said, take baby steps towards your goal.
