Last night was a great night for Call to Arms Speeches and Audio Visual Presentation

'Quamplurimi et quam aptisimi" (As many as possible of the very best)

                                  j
Tristan, adjudged the best speaker last night

Last night, the penultimate night before the semester ends, was a another great night in the life of the Class of Leaders. 26 call to arms speeches covering wide range of advocacies, health care, education, tsinelas leadership, breastfeeding, leadership, youth leadership training, taking care of visions all reveal the gifts and talents of the leaders in the class. They revealed themselves, to me to each other, their gifts which they can use to make the world a better place. As they reveal themselves in their speeches, and the audio visual presentation, one gets a better and deeper picture of the leaders, much more than an enneagram, or a genogram, or a 10 page paper does.

Subject: CALL TO ARMS SPEECH by LEADER DR. MA. LOURDES G. LAGUNILLA

My advocacy is to prevent disabilities or complications in children using screening test for metabolic diseases, hearing and vision screening.

As Pediatricians we are in charge of the infant from the time of birth whenever given the opportunity to attend their delivery.
My advocacy is to prevent disabilities or complications in children using screening test for metabolic diseases, hearing and vision screening.

The first cry of the baby signifies life which must be sustained.     Every second counts. I must be able to intervene for signs that threatens the life of this innocent baby.... whenever  the baby is not breathing , whenever the baby is ... not crying.

Notes on the Team building exercise we had yesterday at Clearwater

'Quamplurimi et quam aptisimi" (As many as possible of the very best)

The Clash Master debriefing the Class

Thanks to the able leadership of the following Clash Master:   Dr Suzette Kabigting Munoz, Dr. Lourdes Lagunilla, Tristan Val Leonida, Belle Katigbak and Anne Mayette Boysie, we had fun filled, learning, and challenge filled experience from Team Building Exercise at Clear Water.

These were my recollection of the events yesterday:

1.  Leader Dr. Suzette, using the F150 of RCEE fetched this author from the hotel towards Clear Water team building venue.  When we arrived at the site, most of the Leaders were there.  Many winners for early bird.

The author poses with the early bird leaders

2. The first activity which started at 4:30 was the prayer dance of St. Ignatius de Loyola.  It was led by Leader Sister Belle Katigbak.   The prayer dance was challenging because you have to do a line dance while holding a fellow leader at the shoulder and holding a lighted candle at the other hand (left).  You worry about stepping on the foot of the fellow leader, being out of step and the candle burning your hand and/or fellow leader. It was school holiday yesterday, but we had a class anyway so as not to disrupt the academic calendar.  (One class coincided with the Ramadan, with the Feast of St Ignatius, and on the 21st, the birthday of Ninoy.

Leader Tristan giving over view of the team building and the rules

3.  Then we had the usual speeches:   Leader Dr. Munoz delivering the opening remarks, I delivering the inspirational talk, and Leader Tristan giving the overview of the team building and the rules.  Then we organized the teams.  Yellow, blue and ube. I joined the yellow team who had Leader Zel, Maui, Steph, Gage, Dr. George, Dr Alan, and Oliver as other members.

4.  The activities:

Cheerleading

                                  Blue organizing

                                      Leader Zel organizing yellow submarine

                                    Clash master showing good example

U Be's number led by Leader Charmie and Josh, Jack being lifted!

                                 Blue starting their routine

Very clean movement and very organized Blue Team

    1.  The first activity was cheerleading.  Dr. Zel coached us with the "We are  we are, yellow submarine, and then "Boom Panes"  Boom boom panes The other distinctive cheer was Ube led by Leader Josh

No one can move away from the circle

                                       Blue starting their tower construction

Three Leader MDs are in the yellow team

Ube with their creation.  They opted for cube structure

The winner in straw tower building contest -  blue team

   2. Then we had the straw tower building contest.   Blue was the winner at 9 straws, followed by yellow, with 8.5 straws.  Blue had just a pole shape tower,  Yellow had a tower patterned after Eiffel Tower, with four base and column support.  Ube had a square structure.

The team of Dr Zel with Leader Ron calling the shots, won the game

  3. We had the rabbit, hunter wall.  After a series of ties, the group led by Leader Dr Zel, and commanded by Ronnie on what to do, won by a single win over the other group.

  4.  Other activities:

       1.  Together we rise up and stand from a arms interlocked sitting position.  Blue won this.  Yellow could have won were it not for infraction of loosening arm lock  Yellow lost this because there were only six and there were not enough force to get people up.  Not much strength from the back

      2.   The hula hoop challenge -  the hula hoop would have to be passed on the next team member out and back and the final guy to get the hula hoop would run in front and do a jumping hula.  Again we lost this one.

     3.  The obstacle course.  It was dark, and despite the availability of flood light, the Safety Officer Dr. Daisy recommended that this be scuttled because there were many mosquitoes and there could be dengue infection

                                    Compete or collaborate?

It is not all about competition, it could be co opetition

Let us have the most number of balls possible -  81!

You have to watch your loot or this could be looted!!?

A struggle to have more balls

Prof trying to get more balls for yellow team

Many companies and teams now collaborate rather than compete

    4.  The collaboration game -  who gets the most number of balls, It was first a competitive situation where leaders get as many balls from the center and from each other.  It was both offense and defensive game. If you do not watch your own circle. the other members looted your circle.   Until Maui convinced others that we just put our hoops at the middle to get the most number of balls.

Reflection Paper 2 by LEADER DR. MA. LOURDES G. LAGUNILLA

Reflection Paper 2
LEADER DR. MA. LOURDES G. LAGUNILLA
1.  External -  what are family, environment school and work experience that shaped you today?
2.  Internal  -  your values, strength, weakness and how do they affect on how you decide act
3.  How do they prepare you for your future challenges..
I. External -  what are family, environment school and work experience that shaped you today?
A. My Family
What I am today is a composition of my life experience with my family, my studies ,and my employment.
I come from an ordinary family who work hard for a living.  There is no wealth inherited to make life easier.  My memories bring me back to a hard working father  " Tatang " , an employee at Clark Air Base who is out of the house as early as 6 in the morning which means my mother has to prepare earlier for his breakfast and lunch to bring.  My mother " Ima"  is a housewife but has to complement income with our retail textile store.  She has also to prepare early to go to market to work and leave us with house helpers . We, their  children were reared to be independent .  We wake up early to go school walking from home for about a distance of 5 kilometers most of the time just a pandesal for our breakfast and go home for lunch also walking to and from school.  I remember very well that I was skinny then.  I eat to live.  I am more preoccupied to study.  I don't remember studying my lessons after school for I am so tired and just go to sleep after dinner.  We had no social life like parties to attend.  Very vivid to my memory was our walk through the railroad with my brother carrying me at his back to watch television during weekends at my aunt's place who had a black and white television.  This was an enjoyable experience.  We also share fond memories of sharing dinner after a payday of my Tatang when he brings home " Target " corned  beef which he cooked delightfully as soup with tomatoes, potatoes .  This is grand dinner  for us.
I remember good memories of my brothers telling me stories from movies like " ALL MINE TO GIVE" , SHENANDOAH.  My younger sister and I enjoy listening to the stories of the movies watched by my  two elder brothers and they make us cry.
During weekends, we are all obliged to work at our retail store.  Holidays like Christmas were more busy season and at a very young age I sell socks on a table fronting our store ( this was to be a " bargain sale " ). During those times, my sister and I hide under the table whenever we see schoolmates.(  I didn't exactly knew  then why we hide. Maybe because we were different  as any other children as we were working .    I envied my classmates enjoying the company of their parents during Christmas season. ( Later on when we grew older about  at 10 years of age , I realized we had to help our parents to earn more during  Christmas season. This the best time to sell clothes.  School breaks  were not meant to be vacation because I had to work.
I have fond memories of  Ima cook pulvoron or milk candies which I also learn to cook and wrap , including leche flan especially prepared during fiestas on second Sundays of October, the "La Naval".    I love fiestas as these are the best days when go to mass with new dresses and we have a lot of food selection
During school programs and activities I  was all by myself , no family member to watch our performance.  Our parents were just too busy working.  I could understand but I always envied children with their families supportive of their school and personal needs.  This was how life was till my high school days.  There are times I ask why my parents  are so busy to miss very significant moments in our life. ( I began to understand  this situation  when I grew older at  12 years old, that sometimes , our parents will really missed attending to us, because the opportunity for earning is during these holidays, graduation months and weekend.  Still, in my mind I question my parents why they missed  memorable events.
Now that I have my own family, I reminisce my humble beginning and  always shared with them my happy and sad moments of life.  I try to be a better parent to be always available for my children in their school activities though my husband will always attend Parents Teachers meeting.  I continue to be an example of hard work, but I do not fail to attend to the personal and academic needs of my children.  I also am their teacher.
