                               Synopsis of Movie Gladiator
The movie that I chose is Gladiator, a 2000 epic historical drama directed by Ridley Scott.   Gladiator was a box office success and won multiple awards at the Academy for Best Picture and Best Actor.  The hero in the movie travels through 12 stages, much like Joseph Palmer's book  "The Hero with a Thousand faces."
·         The Hero is introduced in his ordinary world
"All for the glory of Rome."
The Hero in the movie, Gladiator, is the Hispano-Roman General Maximus Decimus Meridius.  His ORDINARY WORLD is the battlefield where he led the Roman army to its decisive victory from the Germanic tribes. He is loved and admired for his virtues of morality, fortitude, courage, loyalty and most of all, for his devotion to his wife and son.  He earned the favor of the Emperor Marcus Aurelius and was appointed as his successor instead of the usual tradition of passing the crown to his son, Commodus, who was considered a failure in leading Rome.

Movie Synopsis of Gladiator moivie, analysis vs J. Campbell and Life Story by Leader Engr. Cezar Cortez

COMPARISON OF THE MOVIE "GLADIATOR" TO JOSEPH CAMPBELL'S MAN HAS A THOUSAND FACE

1) THE HERO IS INTRODUCED IN HIS ORDINARY WORLD.
General Maximus is a simple father and husband that dearly love his son and wife. They live in a place full of wheat plantations. They are a happy family as seen in the first part of the movie.
2) THE CALL TO ADVENTURE.
The hero was task to defeat the Germanic barbarians to restore and affirm the power of Rome. He was an able general with loyalty to the emperor Aurelius.
3) THE HERO IS RELUCTANT AT FIRST.
Although the dying Aurelius has a son named, Commodus, he still decides to appoint a temporary leadership to the brave Maximus, with a desire to eventually return power to the Roman Senate. Aurelius informs Maximus and offers him time to consider before informing Commodus, who, in a bout of jealousy, murders his father.
4) THE HERO IS ENCOURAGED BY THE WISE OLD MAN OR WOMAN.
Maximus was constantly encouraged by Aurelius to consider in accepting the emperor position because of his knowledge in battle, the love for Rome and he also enjoys the loyalty of his thousand army.
