Team building in the class room

This author is very elated and happy that he has contributed albeit in a small way to the development/improvement of the Leadership course. He finished two classes all ready; is conducting a third one.  By next week, he will have two other courses in the province There are various innovation that he has  added into the course:

1.  Employment of info tech and web site for the posting of learning materials, for the forum (comments) class participation, for the class. Student leaders become more well versed and less fearful of the information technology.

2.  Call to Arms speeches.   This  is an essential part of Leadership development.   The ability to communicate to the constituents, in a convincing, rousing, emotional, manner is a key competence that must be developed in leaders.  For many, speech making is a fearful event, or sometimes an ordeal

3.  The movie synopsis, life story, and JCampbell analysis is an innovation,  Three parallel analysis is made so the Leader becomes fully aware that "ang buhay ay parang sine"  As we become aware of our life, we become fully aware of others so that we can engage and relate to them in meaningful way.  Telling stories, even movies is leadership.  Leadership is not what we just tell, even more than what we do, but who we are as we reveal this to others through story telling of our life.  Now we have even a greater medium:   photos, movie maker, video, Daily Motion, and You tube.

Sharing their life story by uploading this in third party sites is a fearful thought  though to many, but as a leader you must be thick skinned enough to reveal yourself to others.  As a leader, your life becomes available for the public scrutiny.  You and your life must be able to stand up to that scrutiny and visibility.

4.  Adding Servant Leadership as a material.

5.  Adding Filipino leaders as materials:   Andres Bonifacio, Heneral Luna, Rizal, Ninoy Aquino Filipino leadership traits.

6.  Adding the Chinese President Xi Jinping leadership, his rise to power, and why China being led by him acts that way. And other contemporary world leaders  like Brazilian  President whose country is in a big economic difficulty

7.  Use of power in leadership.  Power and leadership go together. How do you employ, and why is power is necessary when you are a leader of a big group? This is explored in depth, and

8   Buddhism, Socrates and self awareness.

Others:

9.  Team building activities within and outside the campus.  I believe that team building is essential part of Leadership training.   Team building activities to sharpen communication skills, team engagement, problem solving and strategizing MUST BE PART OF LEADERSHIP TRAINING. Parang kulang, bitin pag wala.

10  Employing songs like Greatest Love of All, This Girl is on Fire to fire up motivate the leaders, and having games in the classroom related to this.

11. Making sure that the student leaders practice Leadership in Action, by having class secretary, by having groups co manage the class, by having the committees figure out/plan and implement other class activities as team building.   Persons/group are assigned to manage food logistics, because the canteen closes early

12.  Publishing photos of the  class activities in this site and at FB pages. We encourage class participation outside the class room by having them make comments on the posts

13. Giving prizes and recognition for deeds that need recognition and reinforcement, like to  winners of call to arms speeches, winners and debate with small gifts like candies, Japanese home products items.

14 Opening the class with a debate to have people thinking about leadership in a deep way.

Will there be more?  You bet

Gab makes sure that we are not hungry and not foolish

These items are over over and above  course requirement to deliver mostly Ignatian leadership, Chris Lowney to Student Leaders of this course.

This is spurred by magis - Heroism on my part, ie to make this course much much better under my own volition passion and drive.

From Quora - Xi Jinping rise to power

From the economist

As we describe our life story, our leadership journey, so too the head of the President Xi Jinping  2nd or most powerful richest country in the world, has a journey towards leadership.  His life story and his current situation is illustrative of what a leader went through or will pursue.

His life is journey to leadership/power is described a length at New Yorker (born red) and featured at BBC today.

In the ancient times, to rule China the emperor must wage constant war vs warring clans and belligerent territories.  China too at times must suffer being a colony of the invaders like Huns, Mongols and even the likes of Alexander the great.  With a very large territory that borders Russia, Southeast Asia and and Nepal. the leader must use naked power to lead and rule.
As it was then and now, to rule China a country of 1.3 billion, one must be clever, astute and powerful.  So with the current President and Chairman of the Communist Party of China. President Xi Jinping
He is the 6th man to rule the Communist Party of China, and now considered to be the most powerful, even more powerful than the  Chairman Mao.  He is the son of man who served as Vice Chairman but later was persecuted and jailed.  He was sent to a work in a farm when he was fifteen where he experienced hardships and difficulties.  (It was mythologized as a cave - perhaps in reference to Campbell)  He stands at 5'11" and therefore taller than most previous leaders

He later, despite the persecution of his father rejoined the Party, after having been rejected several times.  He became Redder than Red. It was a time that he was said to be "reborn" He was assigned at various provincial assignment as Provincial Party Secretary.  During those stint, as Party Members are wont to do, he campaigned for the China Dream (just like the American dream) "great rejuvenation of the nation a mixture of prosperity and unification"  These provincial stints educated him on the realities of political infighting, and toughened him as a boss and in wielding power

His strategy to climb back to the top was simple - not to offend many, to be low key and silent. His work in China provinces earned him the respect of top party leaders. To earn the respect of party leaders and populace, he was known to work for the benefits of soldiers, wear fatigue uniforms, and even gave the villa assigned to him as home for veterans  But he was known to disdain luxury and corruption and has been known, as the new President to  punish the offenders.
