MELCHOR CASTRO DACLAN

Father's side

My great grandfather Jose Copleros Dionson from Iloilo City who is the father of my grandmother Yuliana Gillangala Dionson was labeled GENIUS and it was confirmed by his daughter Yuliana. He was a multi-talented person and has the passion in invention.

Although he was just a High School Graduate but he is excellent writing, most especially in stage plays. He himself is a stage play actor, singer, plays violin and he manufactured wind and strings musical instruments.

In his generation he was very popular in designing and manufacturing guns.

He rides Harley Davisson Big Bike.  He is also a famer, black smith and a body builder.

He was in Cebu in 1942 - 1945 during WWII. Then he moved together with his family in Davao City, where he practiced his talents in musical instruments together with his children. His children received scholarship because of their talents in music except my grandmother Yuliana Gillangala Dionson who stayed in Cebu after she married my grandfather Luis Labandero Daclan Sr.

Jose Copleros Dionson has a very strict and straight forward personality.

Because of cardiovascular disease he died at age of 70 due to cardiac arrest while he was lifting weights.

My great grandmother Regina Gellangala Gintolio who is the mother of my grandmother Yuliana Gillangala Dionson was a very beautiful woman who was raise in the sugar cane farm in Negros Occidental. In spite of poverty she was remembered as very humble and loving mother. She spent most of her time nurturing his children.

My grandmother Yuliana Gillangala Dionson who is the mother of my father Luis Dionson Daclan Jr., she was very intelligent woman in his generation but not a bright as her father Jose. She develops several talents in her childhood like cooking, housekeeping, reading books. Her leadership started when she became a mother, she was very disciplinarian to her children. When she became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she was called to serve as Relief Society President.
She is only up to 2nd year in College, major education – in (USJR) San Jose Recoletos, Cebu City. In her early education her favorite subject is English.
Later part in her life she became USA Citizen together with her husband.
They are five children in the family, her siblings are the following:

Reflection Paper 2: Internal and External Factors that Shaped Me

EXTERNAL – WHAT ARE FAMILY, ENVIRONMENT, SCHOOL AND WORK EXPERIENCES HAS SHAPED YOU TODAY?

In family:  Considering I am the second out of nine children, it was my very first experience of being a leader. Being a leader to my 7 younger siblings, was a sweet memory for me. I was leading with all my sincerity, dedication and love to my young brothers and sisters. Since grade two I learned to prepare meals for them. For eight years boy, cooking for the family was a big deal already. As we grow up I gained the trust and confidence of my brother and sisters at the same I taught them my skills in sports, such as Karate, Kickboxing, Track & Field and Swimming. It was a very memorable for me as a young leader.
In school:  It was a big challenge for my parents to find time to help me and my siblings with our lessons in school. My father and mother are doing their best to provide just enough for the basic needs of our family. I truly believe that adversaries can us strong. As young as eight years old I cook foods for my younger siblings and to study by myself.
Because I was friendly and somehow cute in graders I became the class prince charming almost every school year, but soon I move to high school my classmates and teachers gradually discovered my leadership ability. The prince charming became the class president every school year and at the same time I exceled in sports activities and won plenty of medals in track and fields, in swimming and dominated in Karate-do and Kick Boxing in my own category.
At work: It's been nine years since I submitted my resignation as Regional Associate Manager in LDS Employment Resource Services (ERC), under Church Welfare Department. My engagement in LDS-ERC was indeed very colorful and fruitful. Until now I can still feel the great excitement that I felt during those years of special moments in Reaching, Teaching and Coaching all our volunteers, clients, and partners in achieving success.

Movie Synopsis, Analysis of JCampbell's Monomyth and My Life Story

Synopsis of the Movie Forrest Gump
Forrest Gump movie was created in Year 1994 with starring Tom Hunks is my selected film for my paper. This follows the life events of a man who shares the name as the title of the film. Gump faces many tribulations throughout his life, but he never lets any of them interfere with his happiness. From wearing braces on his legs, to having a below average IQ and even being shot, Gump continues to believe that good things will happen and goes after his dreams. While several less than ideal things occur during Gump's life, he manages to turn each setback into something good for him, such as when he finally gets his braces off he discovers that he is capable of running faster than most other people. This skill allows Gump to not only escape his bullies while he is a child in Greenbow, but also to gain a football scholarship, save many soldiers' lives and become famous for his ability. While Gump eventually achieves the majority of the things he hoped to throughout the movie, it proved a much more difficult task to win the heart of his life-long friend Jenny Curran. The movie is centered on Forrest Gump and the incidences that occur during his life, but during each period in his lifetime he thinks back of Jenny and how important she is to him. Although the two characters grew up together and shared a very close friendship, as the movie progresses they grow apart. This upsets Gump who cares immensely for the girl who had a rough start in life, and it seems the two always end up back in each other's lives, often in extraordinary ways like meeting in the Reflection Pond in D.C. Even though Gump is the main character of the film, it similarly tells the story of Curran and the hardships she faces.

The Hero is introduced in his ordinary world
"Stupid is as stupid does" is what Forrest Gump hears throughout his less than picturesque childhood. Though not as smart as the people he meets along the way, Forrest is thrust into some scary, crazy and downright incredible situations, rubbing shoulders with some great historical figures and escaping many dangers on sheer dumb-luck. His giant heart and never fading love for his lifelong friend Jenny take him on a journey where he learns what his destiny is.

Spirituality in Ignatian Leadership – "What lack I yet?"
(By Melchor Castro Daclan)

As Ingnatian Leaders, we will resist the temptation to draw attention to ourselves and, instead, strive for a far greater honor: to become humble, authentic leaders guided by the Spirit of God in Heaven and on earth.

In the late 18th century, Catherine the Great of Russia announced she would tour the southern part of her empire, accompanied by several foreign ambassadors. The governor of the area, Grigory Potemkin, desperately wanted to impress these visitors. And so he went to remarkable lengths to showcase the country's accomplishments.

For part of the journey, Catherine floated down the Dnieper River, proudly pointing out to the ambassadors the thriving hamlets along the shore, filled with industrious and happy townspeople. There was only one problem: it was all for show. It is said that Potemkin had assembled pasteboard facades of shops and homes. He had even positioned busy-looking peasants to create the impression of a prosperous economy. Once the party disappeared around the bend of the river, Potemkin's men packed up the fake village and rushed it downstream in preparation for Catherine's next pass.

Enneagram

I am in deed grateful for the Enneagram Test. I am happy with the result that I am most likely Type 3 – The Achiever and taking wings into account that seem to be a 3w2 (Type 2 -  The Helper).

It excites and ignites my desire to become the best leader as I can be. This is a good manifestation of my great potentials.

Leadership Achiever

I was totally amazed to discover leadership potential when I was 11 years old after I dominate in Philippines Air Force Children Karate. Starting that young age I became a very anxiously engaged in training and leading my fellow Karate Kids. From that time onward I am a leader almost in every organization I will be involved.

Because of my charm and popularity in Karate I became class president almost every school year in high school and in college, including the community and most especially in the Church.

Regis Cebu Leadership, Leader Melchor Castro Daclan Reflection, Paper #1 - Defining Moments

Reflection Paper #1 – Defining Moments

Divine Direction and Accountability

Because of my life's peculiar challenging weaknesses, I learned to become humble and submissive to the Will of Heavenly Father. Then I gained some favor that will bless the lives of other people. To gain the knowledge and wisdom of the purpose of life is a great blessing.

I believe that Heavenly Father has a special purpose for each one of us and we were planted in different ways. Just like the seeds, for some reason we were planted to an unexpected circumstance, to a place where we are expected to grow and to survive to the best of our ability. Ateneo MBA Regis – Cebu is one of the places I am talking about, where we will learned a lot to be become an authentic leader that will change the world.

Authentic Leaders are Always Searching for Mentors

I learned from our Leader Professor Jorge Saguinsin that each one of us have our own leadership potentials and that we have talents and unique abilities to act as the instruments in building our organization, community, country and the church, by helping the people whom we love serve and in such a way we are changing the world by becoming the best and authentic leader..

Everyone Have a Humble Beginning

I grew up in a humble and struggling family due poverty. I am the second out of nine children. Because of our challenging circumstances, I able to understand the word survival and I became very experience in taking care of little children. Considering diapers did not exist those years and if did for sure we cannot afford to buy. Since grade two I am used to absent from school. Because each time my mother will give birth to another baby sibling, I am the one cooking our meals, cleaning the house and attending my younger siblings.

"Life is not easy, nor was it meant to be. It is a time of testing and trial." (M. Russell Ballard)[1]

As I witnessed my seven younger siblings growing up, I came to a realization that I am talented in caring and training children to be the best as they can be, by helping them discover their God's given talents.. As I reflected and pondered my experiences, those days were my early intensive training to become a well prepare, respected and ordained leader of God. That will lead hundreds of people in the Church and in the community.

Family is Always the Best Leader's Inspiration

My leadership was enhanced after I got married and became a father of my own children; I got two sons and a special child daughter. Because of her autism she cannot communicate and socialize with other children, while my wife is now conceiving for our fourth baby. Life is challenging but I love the sensation of being challenged.

I loving believe that fatherhood is leadership, the most important kind of leadership. It has always been so; it always will be so, with the assistance and counsel and encouragement of my eternal wife in magnifying with all God's divine directions and accountabilities given by Him.

Leader should prioritize his family!

'No other success in life can compensate for failure in the home' (David O. McKay)[2]

Righteous Self-Control and Conduct

When I was serving as a full time missionary I learned to follow with exactness the defined high standards of moral worthiness and the physical, mental, and emotional stability missionary service now demands. The standards are rigorous, but with my strong determination and faithfulness I able to conquer my weaknesses.

As human being we are always subject to our physical senses and strong emotions that are very hard to control, but by the spirit of God I became a very success missionary by following all the standards.

As a leader we should practice self-control. Self-control is like a muscle: the more you use it, the stronger it gets. Avoiding something tempting once will help you develop the ability to resist other temptations in the future and will help you become a better leader.

A principle of eternal progression is that exercising self-control and living righteously strengthen our ability to resist temptation. This is true both in the spiritual realm and in temporal matters. In developing Christ like attributes is very humbling but it is emphasizing obedience and spirituality of a true leader.

Decision Determine Destiny

Before I became a Bishop of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints I had a lot of options in life, like immigrating to another country together with my whole family to enjoy higher quality life style. However, I receive a call asking me to come back to my own country and to serve. After receiving that call, I immediately packed my things and flew back to Philippines. After that, the life style of my family were never the same but I never had any regrets because I know that this is the Lord expected me to do. I will go where the Lord want me to go and serve no matter what.

Abraham, who led Isaac on that heartbreaking journey to Mount Moriah, was faithfully going where the Lord wanted him to go (see Gen. 22). So was David when he stepped out before the hosts of Israel to answer the challenge of the giant Goliath (see 1 Sam. 17).

As a leader, we know who we are and what God expects us to become. As I listen to the truth taught to us in the book of Genesis:

God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. . . .
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
And God blessed them. [Genesis 1:26–28]

We are created in the image of God. We cannot sincerely hold this conviction without experiencing a profound sense of strength and power.

We believe that we lived before we came to earth, that mortality is a probationary period wherein we might prove ourselves obedient to God's command and thus worthy of celestial glory.
