My real self in relation to my enneagram result
My first enneagram test result shows that I have type 8 personality with aggressiveness as its behavioral tendency. It is also classified as a CHALLENGER. I agree with how the "Challenger" behavior was described. I exhibit said behaviours most of the time.
As a school admin and officer of our clubs, I tend to be tough minded and energetic when confronted with challenges or problems. I always think that problems have always solutions available. I subscribe to the idea of Goethe who said, "Everything is hard before it's easy".  I always look for people who have experienced the same problems because I am curious to know how they handled such problems. This explains why I am active in joining organizations. I really enjoy learning from their experiences. This also explains why I sacrifice travelling long hours and crossing islands just to attend my MBA class. It excites me knowing that every class will unveil new learnings for me. I do not stop until I get it right. This reminds me of my determination to love MATH during my early college years. If my classmates can solve algebra problems, why can't I?

Cebu Regis Leadership by Leader Ivy Eleanor Ko – Enneagram (Revised)

I am familiar that there are available exams that tells you your personality types, and I've taken a few myself. One exam that I am most familiar with is the Harrison Assessment examination, which my previous bosses really use like a compass in navigating one's career. After I stopped working in the corporate setting, I felt some kind of a vacuum as I no longer have access to these types of exams that I know on a personal and professional level how I am faring. It was something I miss, most especially the validations and planning on areas I need to improve on. When the Enneagram was introduced in class, it was a very welcoming news for me. I get to continue these self-assessments, what's better about it, is its free! Well, I just had to write a paper about it.  Moreover, this is even better than Harrisson. It won't strip you of your façade, it just makes you understand why you are like that, what is your internal wiring why you seem to think and act the way you do.

What is my new learning when taking an Enneagram test?

I took 3 exams from different sites to ensure I got the right type. In all three results, I got the Type 3 (Achiever). Two of the results showed I have Wing 2 (Helper), with Type 3 SO (social Instinct) Variant. Enneagram Three with a Two-Wing are described to be "The Charmer".  Reading thru the examination result and profiles, I certainly agree with how my type was described, both in the positive and the negative aspect. I even asked my husband to validate if that was how he knows me, which he confirmed.

As I go thru this enneagram exercise, it helped me understand who I really am. It made me reflect and went through the events that had gone thru my life on why I am like this today. It got me to appreciate how things are wired in me ever since I was a child, why I acted that way on occasions and why how it has shaped me to what I am today. It made me run by my personal strengths and weaknesses. How should I maximize my strengths and improve on my weakness, that I should not feel insecure about it, but rather, take it as a challenge to get better. Actually, doing the Enneagram is related to identifying to my life's defining moments, as doing the test and analysis makes you pause and think of the times why you have reacted the way you did, and in the future, it will certainly make me think harder before reacting.

In college, I was so happy to belong to a group of friends who's set of values and drive to do well in school is similar as mine. There were 8 of us, all girls of different backgrounds, and all of us were very competitive. The longing to belong to a social circle was fulfilled as I met these ladies in the University, and we were inseparable ever since.  In the 5 years that we were classmates, being in an all-girl clique of different backgrounds, for sure it was not all the time smooth sailing. There were fights, just like in any relationship. Back then, I was really non-confrontational. I would prefer to be diplomatic, self-accepting, and give-in to what they want. I realized this is a very Type 2 and 3 characteristic. Being a 3, Early on, I like to keep my environment harmonious and peaceful. I don't want burdened with negative emotions. Being a 2, I relate easily to people and to make friends, and I am sensitive to and perceptive about others' feelings.  All of us graduated with honors and passed the CPA board exam together. One was even a board topnotcher.

Fast forward to this day, the bond we have established stood the test of time. We got married and had kids almost at the same time, so our kids are also of the same batches. The funny thing is that the kids are all boys! So now we are in the next chapter of our lives. The relationship has transcend from being students, to travel buddies, to married life and motherhood. From discussion of assignments, to planning of trips, to sharing motherhood stories and what nots. Despite the years that have passed, the dynamics were the same when we were college students. Competitiveness is still there, but as we aged, we tend to let the little things slip by.
I learned that all of us value our friendship, if not, our bond would not have lasted this long. All of us may have gone thru some of life's challenges at the same time, but does not mean all of us learn from it the same way, yes, because of our different outlook and experiences in life.  The test result validated my being the supportive, caring, cheerful, fun and friendly personality in the group, and for sure, I will continue this role until we become grandmothers.

When I started working, I always wonder why my colleagues can't see the overall picture and tend to look at things individually. How come the bosses only look at their departments, and not the company as a whole? How come my expectations for the ExCom were so high that I get easily disappointed when things don't come the way they have committed. For me, it was always to be on top of my deliverable, and I should make sure I will not leave anything uncovered, especially when I do presentations and reports.  I always ensure that I look good and confident. Because of my desire to ensure a perfect report, I always spend so much time ensuring I get things right all the time. I would sacrifice Sundays and holidays so I can prepare for board meetings which usually falls on a Monday morning. I know understand where this is coming from, as three's typically have a high drive for achievement, but to a point, have problems with work alcoholism and competitiveness. My being a 3 wants me to stay informed, know what's going on and be competent and able to get things to work efficiently. However, the flip side is I don't like to deal with inefficiency and incompetence, I have the fear on not being successful and tries hard to impress people which sometimes became exhausting.

Having this innate trait made me realize why I am such a perfectionist on work and school. However, the negative side of it is I tend to be keep to myself the difficulties I am encountering just to look good on the exterior, I'd rather do the work myself rather than delegate it as to make things more manageable. In real life, things don't work out that way. You cannot expect things to be perfect all the time, especially when you have a partner, much worse when you have a baby. You don't think of yourself anymore, but you have to consider your partner's plans. Your timelines get haywire. You cannot just work or do your assignments on Sundays because you want to perfect a report. You have to consider that you have a family. I learned that I have to go easy on this trait and be give priority to things that matter more. I know this is not going to be easy, but the Enneagram test clearly spelled out things that can help me do it, so with the support of my husband and the determination to succeed, I pray I will be able to do it.

What is the relationship to what I already know?

Taking advantage of how I understand myself in dealing with how life is thrown at me now gave me a better perspective of how I should charter my life moving forward. When I left work end of December 2013, I was looking forward to become a mother by June 2014. I became adjusted to being one, thus I decided to take MBA when my baby turned one. Now I am on my fourth subject, and I am thankful that I was able to have this class early on. I can do more in depth analyses asking myself if I am really happy with my life's current state, if this is the situation I want to be really at, if this is how I have envisioned myself to be. The series of reflections enabled me to understand my purpose of being better - In pursuing opportunities and reflecting on the past such as the challenges I went through. These exercises forces me to put in writing some of the things I have procrastinated to do before. In fact, it's as if I have a diary again. But this time, it is about the future, and not what happened yesterday or the week before. For sure, things  that will happen in the future will change my plans again, but I am happy to knowing my authentic self will help me avoid the struggles I've gone thru before finding the direction on where I really want to be.

I know that when my second child turns 5, I will go back to corporate life. That is why I am taking MBA classes and constantly upgrading my skills so that I will still be updated with the current trends and technology. I want to continue to grow my network, so I can continue to learn and grow professionally. I am very eager to meet new people, be it colleagues, suppliers, customers, classmates, and most especially self-made individuals. Over the years, I have made a good network of friends who have been very helpful and I have consider as my life's mentors. I hope I can still find more mentors so I can learn from them.

What have I done, am doing, and will be doing for this topic?

The Enneagram exercise makes me connect my life and understand better. During the time I was still with my then boyfriend (now my husband), he would always tell me that I am emotionally constipated. I don't talk a lot about how I feel and he has to draw it off me. He always tells me to correct that habit as it is not healthy for our relationship. At first, I would be defensive and always tell myself it's normal because this was the way we were brought up. Not much display of feelings and emotions at home. It was not easy for me to say I love you, because we never got used to that. Good thing I gradually learned to show my true emotions and say how I feel as we go thru our relationship. Now that we are married and have our child, I vowed to myself that our children should have high EQ aside from IQ, so it would not be a struggle for them to show us how they feel. As a new parent, I was very critical of myself. "Am I doing it right?" "Am I giving enough time to my baby, my family?" I always struggle on wanting to spend time more with family and wanting to get more work done. Times are changing, we cannot prevent digital era, thus I want to ensure that my kids will be able to communicate with us parents not only what they need physically, but most of all, emotionally, socially, mentally, and in all other aspects. In fact, I have asked husband to take the same exam so we can appreciate each other better, and know how to manage ourselves to have a good married life.

Being introduced to a free tool such as this, I have planned to include this exercise as one of my husband and mine's annual to do's similar to doing an annual physical exam. Aside from checking our physical health, it is important to check on our social, emotional and mental well-being as well. We need to become leaders of our health before we can lead our family or our organization.

Today, I am balancing the roles of a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, a consultant, and a student. Each roles have its own set of to do's and expectations to be able to succeed. Being the Type 3 that I am, it is innate that I want to fulfill each role very well. In fact, this is something I pray for everyday, that the Lord give me the guidance to be able to balance all the things I am fulfilling daily. I want to become a leader in these different roles successfully. I want to lead a life where I can show my child/ren confidence and help them succeed in life by becoming the best person they can be. Like mothers, it's not enough for leaders to simply make sure their subordinate's work done. Rather, their goal should also be to inspire those they serve to see beyond their own ambitions and needs so people will follow them voluntarily.  I can't think of a better example for my child/ren to learn leadership early on so when they grow up, leadership will easily come from within.

Cebu Regis Leadership - Enneagram Test Results by Genevieve Ramos (revised)

Hi prof submitting my revised enneagram hope got it right this time…thanks
CEBU REGIS Leadership Revised Enneagram & LIFELINE Genevieve Ramos
ENNEAGRAM & LIFELINE
The top three result of my enneagram test are the following; I am more like 5 the Investigator, 2 as a helper, & 4 as an individualist. Combine these three, I can see the picture of myself.
What is my new learning when taking an Enneagram test?
It was last year when I was introduced with the strengths finder test, I was so excited and was happy then since I was in search and longing for the answer of my prayers, searching of who I am really inside and what will I do for the rest of my life. Yeah, it did help me to know more of my strengths so I can focus on it, become great and see what lies ahead of me. Lo and behold, as I took the enneagram test, it amplified my understanding of who I am and my character backed up with my core strengths.  It now gives me more clear understanding and description of what my strengths and weaknesses are, that I can relate and connect to my past experience both negative and positive. At first, I reacted on the results of my enneagram test, most especially on the details of my weaknesses.  While it is difficult to take, I realized that when truth hurts, change starts. I could not accept that what was describe of me on my enneagram are very relevant that surely relates to my being a person both from the past and at present. For instance, I have struggled for many years on how to improve my relationship with my eldest daughter, I couldn't influence her and worst is, I always feel that she hated me as much as I couldn't understand her.  She is on her teen-aged now and I am worried because I feel that she needs someone to talk to with her challenges in school and I couldn't get through her feelings. However, after my enneagram test, things have improved and clarified.  It now made me realize that because of my being emotionally distant, and less intimate person describe in my type 5, I never developed a bond with her in her developing years before teenager, which I regretted and felt bad.  Certainly, I believed that there is purpose in each of life's situation, and for this, knowing my weakness now would make me adopt change fast and be able to find ways to catch up with her and fill the gap moving forward.

Regis Cebu leadership | Leader Melissa Abarrientos | Enneagram (revised with the screenshot of my test)

Enneagram

I am a psychology graduate but honestly I never had this Enneagram test. I've learned about other tests that were taught to us during my college days but this one was new to me. The test said, I'm a Type 8, The challenger and some of my personality points to Type 3: the Achiever and Type 2: the Helper. (My highest score was Type 8 but I also scored  high with type 3 and Type 2 altogether) I agree with the score, why?

Personally, I pertly agree with my test results. Based from my experiences and as confirmed by my mother ever since I was a child, I do not want to be controlled. She uses reverse psychology in getting me to cooperate instead of demanding instructions. My circumstances and environment was never a hindrance in doing what I want. I have a strong will and determination and I rarely depend on others.

Second, this personality was most evident at the time I was pregnant. I did not ask for any help and proved to everyone that I can survive without the other; I'm assertive and hardworking. I never relied my happiness and my life on anybody else. The same as I do not blame anyone for any of my misfortunes. .

Cebu Regis Leadership Enneagram (rev) by Leader Lt Cmdr. Andre Lito Ladan

Dear Prof Jorge,

submitted is my revision for my enneagram paper

Learnings from Defining moments.

Based on the Lifeline-Defining moments assignment I've experienced four defining moments in my life and the learnings resulting from them.
            a. At  20 years old- when I have to work to feed myself together with 4 other classmates. It showed me the realities of life and taught me foresight. I learned to consider my future and prepare for it. That experience taught me to become more serious in life.
            b. At 23 years old – I failed a mission because of my swag and incompetence. That incident cost the lives of people. It taught me humility and helped shape my work ethic. It taught me the importance of knowledge and competence in my profession. From then on I try to learn even the most mundane of task as long as it is within my responsibility.
            c. At 32 years old – I got sick and despite the hours I poured at work often sacrificing time for my family it was my family who were with me and nursed me back to health. During my hospital stay I learned the importance of taking care of my body and my family. I also learned to take it slow at times and appreciate what I have.
            d. At 36 years old – at a seven habits program, I was forced to make a credo and it became the guiding principle of my leadership. I learned that there are times that mission accomplishment and taking care of you people is not enough. As a leader, it is also important to develop our people and their character.

Learnings Based on the class lectures/topics

Based on my Enneagram test I am a type 8 challenger/leader, I could also be a type 7 enthusiast or a type 1 reformer.
Type Eights are self-confident, strong, and assertive. Protective, resourceful, straight-talking, and decisive, but can also be ego-centric and domineering. Eights feel they must control their environment, especially people, sometimes becoming confrontational and intimidating. Eights typically have problems with their tempers and with allowing themselves to be vulnerable. At Their Best: self- mastering, they use their strength to improve others' lives, becoming heroic, magnanimous, and inspiring.[1]

Cebu Regis Leadership, Revised Enneagram by Leader Pedro Leonard Castaneda

Prof,

Here is a better-worded version of my paper.

Thanks,

Leonard

3, 4 and 8: A CONFUSION OF NUMBERS OR A COMPLEX PERSON?
People sometimes wonder why they are what they are, and much of this has to do with our own personalities. Some may oppose the idea that we can be quantified, neatly labeled, and put in shelves or boxes. But is this indeed a box that limits you, or a starting line for you to know where you are, so that you would eventually plot where you're going?

Those were some thoughts going through my mind as I took the enneagram test, which was one of several I've taken in my lifetime. There was a virtual tie, according to the test, showing that I was both type 3 and type 4 (an achiever / designer). However, exploring the website led me to a version of the test that would show my instinctual variant. I took it, and the result indeed somewhat varied: now I was a type 8 (challenger), but the scores were immediately followed by type 3 and 4.

GRADE SCHOOL & HIGH SCHOOL

I grew up with my grandparents, and as far as I could remember, competitiveness and academic accomplishment have always been emphasized to me by my grandmother, who was then a teacher. I was supposed to be enrolled in kindergarten, but my grandmother tried to get me to sit in with the first grade students. I read along with them, and after a few days, was accepted as a grade 1 student. In my first grade school, I was the youngest in the class, but also topped all their tests. My grade 1 teacher told me she remembered that I would ask to be excused in the middle of class so I could go out and play because I already finished my seatwork or read the story she assigned to us. I always got first honors in the first 3 grades, but during my 4th grade, I was transferred to the best public school in our city. I still stayed in the honor roll, but no longer was in the running for batch valedictorian. That somehow dampened my spirits a little, but my redemption of sorts came when I took and  was part of only 250 students nationwide to pass the Philippine Science High School entrance examination.

Based on the 2 enneagram tests that I took from different sites, I am a Type 9 with wing 8. Type Nines are The Peacemakers. This is the description found in www.eclecticenergies.com:

"People of this personality type essentially feel a need for peace and harmony. They tend to avoid conflict at all costs, whether it be internal or interpersonal. As the potential for conflict in life is virtually ubiquitous, the Nine's desire to avoid it generally results in some degree of withdrawal from life, and many Nines are, in fact, introverted..."

I am not surprised with the result instead I am more surprised that both sites had the same result. I was secretly hoping that there would be a difference so I can make a choice on what to report in class. After much thinking and reflecting, I realized that I am indeed a peacemaker. I have been the one among my sisters who would go out of the way to patch things up. When I sense a confrontation coming, I would be the first one to try to "lighten" the situation. I rarely show anger and I just keep calm most of the time.

My choice to go to Iloilo City a few years after I got married is one example of how I try to avoid situations that would cause confrontations.  My parents and my husband then were not the best of relatives. My husband wanted me to take care of our family while my parents wanted me to use my education and have a career.

I had many choices after college. There were only a few of us who graduated and most multinational companies based in Manila were offering us signing bonuses to join them. However, I did not want to stay in Manila so I returned to Cebu to teach and get married.

It is my first time to take this test. I was and a bit skeptical as I
believed that I may be a combination of personality types. True
enough after taking the test, the scores indicated that I was 1 of 3
types. This scares me a bit. Does this mean I am bipolar?

The highest score, so evidently, this is my dominant personality type
was Type 5 or the Thinker, Observer. As described in the website of
Eclecticenergies where I took the free Enneagram test, Enneagram Type

Juvelon Abante Enneagram Type Indicator Results

Type 1 – 1pts
Type 2 – 7pts
Type 3 – 5pts
Type 4 – 3pts
Type 5 – 4pts
Type 6 – 5pts
Type 7 – 4pts
Type 8 – 3pts
Type 9 – 4pts

Type 1 – Orderliness
This is where I got a lowest point because a lot of times I don't focus on the instructions but rather on how people will execute. I am not the type of person to strictly implement instructions but hear other's opinion before execution.

Type 2 – Helpfulness
This is my highest score among all types because this holds true that I am "The Helper". Most of the time I value others feelings and based my act on decisions not only according to myself.

Type 3 – Image Focus
Because I am a people person, there is a tendency that I always think of others perspective on me. I always try to focus on being a people with Integrity so that people would not lose trust on me as I lead them.

Type 4 – Individualism
Thinking only for myself is not my personality. I believe in influencing others so that others can become a leader too. I believe in the saying there is no" I" in the TEAM thus I am a great team player rather than work as individual.

Type 5 – Intellectualism
Coaching is one of my strength. I firmly believe that sharing talents and skills are ways to influence as a leader. In my project team, I always involve everyone in different tasks so that it is a shared knowledge rather than focus on learning and doing things only on their own.

Type 6 – Security Focus
This personality has been changed since I started my own family. Previously, I didn't mind my security and safety and focus on other people only but these have changed when I started to have my own kids and build my family. My decision now is not just for others but for the security and safety of my family.

Type 7 – Adventurousness
I can easily get along with people's personality. I always aim for a fun working environment for a good motivation and to foster teamwork.

Type 8 – Aggressiveness
I tend to give way for others rather than focus on having a control of the team. I am not the type of leader who just direct and command without knowing the team. I tend to learn from the team.

Type 9 - Calmness
This is one of my strength. I always see to it that my team is having a harmonious work environment and avoid conflicts as much as possible. When conflicts arise, I address them immediately and not allow to have a strain the team's work relationships.

REFLECTION

As i browse thru the enneagram results, there are areas that I need to improve and develop in the future to be better leader in the future.
It is true that I have the Type 2 Helper Personality but there are also disadvantages on being too Helpful. The resullts gave me a better understanding on how it is good being a Type 2 and what is not good. It is a challenge for me to practice and improve other personalities but by knowing your areas of weaknesses then I may be able to show the skills of self awareness and self regulation, a character that a true leader demonstrates.

I am in deed grateful for the Enneagram Test. I am happy with the result that I am most likely Type 3 – The Achiever and taking wings into account that seem to be a 3w2 (Type 2 -  The Helper).

It excites and ignites my desire to become the best leader as I can be. This is a good manifestation of my great potentials.

Leadership Achiever

I was totally amazed to discover leadership potential when I was 11 years old after I dominate in Philippines Air Force Children Karate. Starting that young age I became a very anxiously engaged in training and leading my fellow Karate Kids. From that time onward I am a leader almost in every organization I will be involved.

Because of my charm and popularity in Karate I became class president almost every school year in high school and in college, including the community and most especially in the Church.

II.      MY LIFELINE VIS-À-VIS THE ENNEAGRAM RESULTS

Inline image
When I read the characteristics of my basic personality and wing types, I was actually not surprised. As you will see in my Learning Agreement, my strengths and weaknesses reflect exactly some of the most important assets and liabilities that each personality is comprised of.
As illustrated above, I plotted my lifeline and graphed it to try to make sense of my experiences, how I felt at the moment, what I was thinking during these times, where I was, and where I am now.
Type 3 - The Achievers
In a nutshell…
ü  Adaptable, excelling, driven, and image-conscious
ü  Focused on the presentation of success, to attain validation
"People of this personality type need to be validated in order to feel worthy; they pursue success and want to be admired. They are frequently hard working, competitive and are highly focused in the pursuit of their goals.  They are often "self-made" and usually find some area in which they can excel and thus find the external approbation which they so desperately need."
Threes are socially competent, often extroverted, and sometimes charismatic. They know how to present themselves, are self-confident, practical, and driven. Threes have a lot of energy and often seem to embody a kind of zest for life that others find contagious. They are good networkers who know how to rise through the ranks. But, while Threes do tend to succeed in whatever realm they focus their energies, they are often secretly afraid of being or becoming "losers".
Threes can sometimes find intimacy difficult. Their need to be validated for their image often hides a deep sense of shame about who they really are, a shame they unconsciously fear will be unmasked if another gets too close. Threes are often generous and likable, but are difficult to really know. When unhealthy, their narcissism takes an ugly turn and they can become cold blooded and ruthless in the pursuit of their goals." (Eclectic Energies)

I was four when my mom left me with my grandparents to work abroad. My grandparents had to care for me and my aunt, who's almost the same age as I am. Given the difficulties of caring for two children, my grandparents had to kind of split the task. My grandmother has always been hands on with my aunt, while my grandfather was the one who adored me to pieces and people say it was because I was the first grandchild.
I was a lolo's girl. I wasn't really all that close to my grandmother because I found her harsh. She was a typical old school old woman who got irked over the smallest things. Every time I got scolded, I'd always run to my lolo for comfort.
My grandfather died when I was six. Ever since, it was just my grandmother, my aunt, and myself. My grandmother always favored my aunt and always compared her with me – how respectful, kind, generous, hard-working, and just wonderful as a child she is. She also showed me how proud she is of how beautiful and talented she was and even for the course she took in college as compared to mine. It is for this molding backdrop that I turned into this competitive, but at the same time, insecure person that I am. Whenever people would compare me to someone, I felt the need to prove them wrong and show-off how "great" I was. I hated the feeling of being insecure and inferior, which is why I always try to stay ahead of the competition. I always want to be the best in everything I undertake, whether professionally, academically, even up to the social scene. I always want to make an impact. I always want to be the one people can rely on and look up to for anything that they need – the go-to guy. I always want to matter and it irks, distracts, demotivates, and even depresses me when I don't. It makes me feel like not needed, useless, and thus purposeless.
I guess it is also for this reason that I was not surprised to have a wing Type 2 – The Helper.
Enneagram Type 2 - The Helper
In a nutshell…
ü  Generous, demonstrative, people-pleasing, and possessive
ü  Helpers who need to be needed
"People of this personality type essentially feel that they are worthy insofar as they are helpful to others. Love is their highest ideal. Selflessness is their duty. Giving to others is their reason for being. Involved, socially aware, usually extroverted, Twos are the type of people who remember everyone's birthday and who go the extra mile to help out a co-worker, spouse or friend in need.
Twos are warm, emotional people who care a great deal about their personal relationships, devote an enormous amount of energy to them, and who expect to be appreciated for their efforts. Helping others makes Twos feel good about themselves; being needed makes them feel important; being selfless, makes Twos feel virtuous. Much of a Two's self-image revolves around these issues, and any threat to that self-image is scarcely tolerated. Twos are thoroughly convinced of their selflessness, and it is true that they are frequently genuinely helpful and concerned about others. It is equally true, however, that Twos require appreciation; they need to be needed. Their love is not entirely without ulterior motive.
Because Twos are generally helping others meet their needs, they can forget to take care of their own. This can lead to physical burnout, emotional exhaustion and emotional volatility. Twos need to learn that they can only be of true service to others if they are healthy, balanced and centered in themselves.
Twos are proud and have a strong sense of their own worth." (Eclectic Energies)
When I was 10, my mom came home to the Philippines and it was the first time I saw her since she left. With her was a 10-month old baby boy I do not know. I thought my mom was already a nanny or something and it was a child she was just taking care of, but of course I was weirded out as to why she would bring him along with her. It was only then that they told me it was my brother. I was confused because for the longest time, I was convinced I was an only child. It was also only then that they told me my parents had separated when I was one, and it was the reason I was brought back to the Philippines.
My mom and my stepdad had been together as soon as she flew back to Japan, and that was even when I was four. For as long as I could remember, my mom would require me to send my dad greeting cards for every occasion there is, as if to make me believe I still had a father.
My dad never did respond to my letters. Whenever I would ask, they would all tell me that he's just too busy. I would buy it but then, it all made sense.
I was presented with hard truths as if to tell me I have no other choice but to take it. I was too young and never really got the chance to absorb and deal with the truth. I just know I didn't like, but there's nothing more I can do. Neither was I given the chance to be provided any explanation; something which up to now I feel they owe me.
I feel I was deceived and deprived of the fair chance to know the truth and actually deal with it. It is because of these lies and deceit that I felt entitled to do whatever I want to do without owing my mom, my grandmother, or my family any explanation. Ever since, I have had issues trusting people and hence have always had my guards up to protect myself from everyone thinking they are all out to attack me. It was also ingrained in my mind that everyone is out to protect only themselves and only their own interests, thus prompting me to be dubious of everyone's intentions.  This caused me to be independent and watch for my own self against people trying to take advantage of me. I have learned to look out for my own, to trust no one, and to depend on no one. I thought of myself as being alone in this cruel jungle called the world, thus teaching me how to survive on my own, even if it means having to hurt people in the process. I've always seen the world as a dog-eat-dog place that I'm supposed to conquer and a competition that I must always win, which probably also led me to be overly competitive. However, while it has so far been successful for me in terms of conquering the world, somehow, there is still this sense of emptiness that I cannot seem to overcome. This part of me seems to hold true to the characteristics of an Enneagram Type 4 person, The Individualist.
Enneagram Type 4 - The Individualist
In a nutshell…
ü  Expressive, dramatic, self-absorbed, and temperamental
ü  Identity seekers, who feel unique and different
"People of this personality type tend to build their identities around their perception of themselves as being somehow different or unique; they are thus self-conscious individualistic. Fours tend to see their difference from others as being both a gift and a curse - a gift, because it sets them apart from those they perceive as being somehow "common," and a curse, as it so often seems to separate them from the simpler forms of happiness that others so readily seem to enjoy. Thus, Fours can manage to feel superior to others while also secretly harboring some degree of longing and envy. A feeling of being a member of the "true aristocracy" alternates with deep feelings of shame, and fears of somehow being deeply flawed or defective.
Fours are emotionally complex and highly sensitive. They long to be understood and appreciated for their authentic selves, but easily feel misunderstood and unappreciated. They have a tendency to withdraw in the face of a world that seems harsh or crude, and are often somewhat moody or temperamental. They are emotionally centered and spend much of their lives immersed in their internal mental landscapes, where they feel free to cultivate and analyse their feelings. A desire to manifest this internal world often leads Fours to an interest in the arts, and some do become actual artists. Whether artistic or not, however, most Fours are aesthetically sensitive and concerned with self-expression and self-revelation, whether it be in the clothes they wear or in the overall nature of their often idiosyncratic lifestyles.
Fours are somewhat melancholic by disposition, and under stress tend to lapse into depression. They also tend to be self-absorbed, even under the best of circumstances, but when unbalanced, easily give way to a self-indulgence which they perceive as being fully justified as a way to compensate for the general lack of pleasure they experience in their lives. Rather than look for practical solutions to their difficulties, Fours are prone to fantasizing about a savior who will rescue them from their unhappiness." (Eclectic Energies)
