Why is the Song Greatest Love of All a Top Choice as a Song for Leadership? Love in Corporate Leadership?

'Quamplurimi et quam aptissimi" (As many as possible of the very best)

Why is love part of discussion in Leadership?  Isn't this odd? Having love in a steely cold corporate environment is strange and  a contradiction.  This is not taught in other GSB. Maybe only AGSB does.

But this is IGNATIAN  Leadership training, and this subject is an an AGSB advantage.  And to add love as a component of leadership.  The idea of a company as a Compania in Lowneys Heroic Leadership - a gathering of friends rather than a gathering of politically motivated backstabbing, intriguing, gossiping hordes (tinitira ka ng patalikod!)

Here are the lyrics by Masser

(l. creed/m. masser)

I believe the children are our future    - Leaders are born, the earth must be saved for our children
Teach them well and let them lead the way    Leaders are made/taught/trained
Show them all the beauty they possess inside   - Leadership from within
Give them a sense of pride
To make it easier
Let the children's laughter              - living curious, being innocent, reminds us of Jesus love for                                                                      children
Remind us how we used to be       -  our genogram
Everybody's searching for a hero   - we look for role models
People need someone to look up to   -   we need great leaders;  leadership deficiency  is by factor of                                                                   200%
I never found anyone who fulfilled my need              we need leaders who care
A lonely place to be
So I learned to depend on me        )     authentic leadership
Chorus:
I decided long ago                                leaders make great decision and we must learn decision                                                                           making
Never to walk in anyone's shadow )    authentic leadership
If I fail, if I succeed               )
At least I lived as I believe    )             leadership is a  series of ups and down, success and failure
No matter what they take from me
They can't take away my dignity   -    authentic self
Because the greatest love of all
Is happening to me                        -    leadership journey
I found the greatest love of all inside of me    -  Love as a pillar of heroic leadership -  Lowney
The greatest love of all
Is easy to achieve
Learning to love yourself
Is the greatest love of all
(repeat 1st stanza and chorus)
And if by chance that special place   )   A leader dreams, envisions leads his people to a new place of                                                                     change, where his people has not been before
That you've been dreaming of           )   A leader imagines, envisions, innovates is ingenious
Leads you to a lonely place
Find your strength in love     - one of the pillars of leadership.  Indeed a leader finds strength in love

Special Reports on Leadership Readings

'Quamplurimi et quam aptissimi" (As many as possible of the very best)

Cath Reported on What Leaders Do by having Miranda as her example

Ateneo Professional Schools
Rockwell, Makati City
October 1, 2015

There is a wealth of readings available to the MM Leaders:   CD copy of readings, and HBR pdf file.  and the text:   Heroic Leadership by Chris Lowney - the textbook.  Just to make sure that some readings are read in depth and understood by everyone, this Lecturer requested Leader Jermits, the Class President to  have some Leaders assigned to read and report to the class.

Yesterday, we had the following special reports:

1.   Management vs Leadership comparison by Leader Atty Leigh Abarquez

2.  Effective Executive by leader Richard Tan

3.  What Leaders Do by Leader Cath Villanueva.

Before this, this Lecturer did a check on the extent and depth of readings by the Class Leaders by reviewing the basics of leadership: (class participation)   Much is still to be desired in terms of mastery of the subject matter.  Except for Leader Rachel

Leader Richard compiled the CD readings for the convenience of the class

The text book has to be read well.   We can not just wing it.  Great leaders read.  And read we must too

Call to Arms Speech by Leader Dr. Zel Catungal

LEADER ZEL CATUNGAL
Introduction:

I have been a Training officer and Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine of Angeles University Foundation Medical Center. It was a fulfilling experience despite my busy and demanding practice as a nephrologist. I am proud to say that I have been an inspiration to my residents and even prouder because I was involved in their training. A lot of our graduates have become Diplomates of Internal Medicine and some even are into fellowship training. The experience I learned from our Leadership class broadened my view of being an Authentic Leader. If given the chance to be invited to deliver an inspirational speech, this speech is inspired by the teachings of Ignatian Leadership.

EVENT: GRADUATION OF MEDICAL RESIDENTS
INVITATION: DELIVER INSPIRATIONAL SPEECH
Mr. President, members of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Chairman, Dr. Training Officer, fellow physicians, parents, friends and guests, a pleasant good evening. It was not too long ago that I just like you, was seated and listened to our speaker then. During that time, while half listening, half day dreaming, I told myself, "someday, I will be the one delivering that speech". How time flies, now here I am delivering this speech to you. Of course it was not only a dream, it was actually a life's journey. We know your journey started long time ago. From the moment you decided to be a doctor and the moment you chose to enter residency training. It was not easy, right? It was not easy since most of your batch mates in high school are either inviting you to their wedding or house blessing while you are still the single in the batch or struggling to pay the rent of your small apartment. Not to mention the so many sleepless nights attending patients but not enjoying the privilege of overtime pay of regular employees. It was a very long journey but you survived! Congratulations! But your journey is not even half way. Your journey starts from knowing yourself and creating the LEADER within you.

Ignatian/Jesuit Leadership

What is Ignatian/Jesuit Leadership all about.

(From Heroic Leadership by Chris Lowney)

The conventional wisdom about leadership are:

(by Harvard Business Professor John Kotter:

1.  Establishing direction
2.  Aligning people through communication
3.  Motivating and inspiring
4.  Achieving results or change.
     May I add success

But what Ignatian leadership teaches are the following concepts (which are Jesuitical) if not contrary to the common Leadership wisdom

1.  We are all leaders and we may be doing it poorly or well;

2.  Leadership springs from what you do and who you are (it wells from within)

3.  It is not an act (a a one shot deal) but it is a way of life ( pp 1 to 15 Heroic Leadership4.  It is an on going process;  we can never be a perfect or complete leader (nor a hero or patriot

4. It is an ongoing process.  We are never a complete perfect leader, hero or patriot.  We are all journeying to become better leaders.
