STAY HUNGRY STAY FOOLISH

'Quamplurimi et quam aptissimi" (As many as possible of the very best)

"Stay hungry stay foolish"

5 Profound lessons from Steve Jobs grad speech at Stanford in 2005

From quora - what does "Stay Foolish, Stay Hungry mean?)

These were the parting words of Steve Jobs to the graduates  he made before the Stanford graduates which he got as final shot of a mag that closed shop (whole earth catalog)

The above empty table for merienda due at 9 reminds the SSS BOP5 Leader students that they must stay hungry (and be foolish) at times.

Stay hungry for new knowledge, learning and adventure

Be foolish - be unique, be innovative, be inventive, be creative.

                                          Fun in Leadership Class

It was a great session last night.

1.  The class started with the playing of Man in the Mirror  You tube - Man on the Mirror

Then back again to the basics of leadership.

2.  The professor presented the  Post of Ateneo  Professor Bong Osorio at Philstar on political leadership.  Links were established between his article and that of man on the mirror.  ie that focus is changing must start with the self rather than the world, that in the scheme of things, it not the other person who should matter, but the man in the mirror.  Prof Osorio - Political Brands Must...

Then the question was posed:  how would you run a campaign:

       1. Leader Maricon would not want to be a QC councilor or run against the incumbent, perhaps be active a the Barangay level;

       2.  Leader Atty Leigh would not run because she is not visible in her hometown.  But prefers the way her relative runs the campaign -  to campaign by deeds vs publicity or awareness.

      3. Leader Cat says this is a difficult question

3.  Then we had two games:

                                         Sharing the gifts we have

                                      Ok na pose?

Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower. - Steve Jobs

In the Entrep Class  that I used to conduct, one of the challenging assignments was to submit a NU12 for the 15 weeks class and NU6 for the Regis Class.   These are stories of what the new things the student has done or planned to do to improve or innovate on his personal business activities and processes.

Little did I realize that at the same time, I was teaching leadership.  To innovate is leadership, thus Steve Jobs, the now deceased founder and former CEO of Apple said;

INNOVATION DISTINGUISHES BETWEEN A LEADER AND A FOLLOWER

One of the secrets leadership and success is the ability to say no

'Quamplurimi et quam aptisimi" (As many as possible of the very best)

There was one article that I read that says that your ability to succeed as leader is contained in one word, a two letter word.

I noted too that many of the learning agreement mentioned as a weakness, the inability to say no or refuse a request.  We are all eager to please everyone.  We can not please everyone.  We have limited time and resources.  We have to prioritize.  Early in my life, I was the President of the Homeowners Federation, President of our HIgh School class, director of the Alumni Association,   Those were on top of my business responsibility and we had several branches and about a hundred employees  It looked as though I was in a big crisis.  My blood sugar went up. I had chest pains.

Then I read an article about  Japan that can say no.l  I too must be able to say no.

So, veto power is a a powerful tool you can exercise over your organization.  Can you see some people in your board who find glee in objecting to everything

So when do you start sorting out things and finding which baggage can be left behind?

What are the things you can say No...to?
