· so = social variant (compliant, friendly), sx = sexual variant (assertive, intense), sp = self preservation variant (withdrawn, security seeking).
After reading the characteristics of the enneagram personality types, I have classified myself as first and foremost "The Reformer" and then could be a "Challenger" or a "Peacemaker". However after taking three different tests, my dominant type swing from "The Achiever" to "The Investigator" to "the Challenger".
Type 3 - The Achiever
Based on the Eclectic Energies test results, I am dominantly Type 3 – The Achiever.
To fully understand and evaluate the applicability of this result, I have listed the personality details of this type as follows:
Personality Type : The Achiever/Motivator
Personality Center : Heart. Denies own feelings; Assumes image and role from society
Personality Statement: I am Successful
Basic Desire : To be accepted and approved
Basic Fear : Of failure/of being rejected
Traps/Passion : Efficiency/Deceit
Manifestation : Overly competitive, basic lack of trust, vain
Healthy Points : Confident, efficient, energetic, industrious, optimistic, practical, self-propelled
Unhealthy Points : Deceptive, narcissistic, overly competitive, pretentious, superficial, vain, vindictive
Vice/Virtue : Deceit/Honesty
Stress Point : Out of touch with their feelings and operates mechanically
Secure Point : More cooperative and less concerned with status
Strengths : Goal Oriented; Have an innate way of knowing how to relate to the world
The characteristics of "The Achiever' are mostly true to me, this type being described as frequently hard working, competitive and highly focused in the pursuit of their goals. This was manifested by my pursuing and receiving several awards as a student and as an employee.
However, not being defensive, the motivation of this type "to attain validation in order to feel worthy" seems not completely applicable. I have exceled not to seek acceptance but because of a strong belief that what others can, so can I. So in a class, I compete by benchmarking myself to others and pursuing to be at par with or better than the best.
My test results from the Enneagram Institute and Similar Minds yielded that I am mostly "Type 5- The Investigator" or "Type 8 – The Challenger". Notably, the Eclectic Energies has a good explanation on this stating that Threes might mistyped as Five, being intellectuals, or mistyped as Eight when in a leadership position.
Type 1 - The Reformer
While I agree to the results of the Eclectic Energies Test, I have consciously geared away from being an Achiever as my exposure has changed from the classroom to the corporate setting which has changed measure of performance from achieving individual goals to group or corporate objectives. This change has called for a core principle that would keep me on track and that is to always do the "right" whatever that pressure and consequences are. As such, I had to install controls to ensure my outputs are reliable, truthful and guarded processes and people so that they are aligned to such expectations. By taking the exams, I have become aware of several weaknesses and areas to conscientiously improve.
Separately, as illustrated by the test results, I have consistently scored/classified high on this Type. Thus, this can be considered as my current enneagram type.
Personality Type : The Reformer/Perfectionist
Personality Center : Gut. Keeps cold anger within
Personality Statement: I am perfect
Basic Desire : To be Right
Basic Fear : Of being imperfect
Traps/Passion : Perfect/Anger
Manifestation : Judgmental
Healthy Points : Ethical, fair, honest, idealistic, orderly, Productive, reliable, self-discipline
Unhealthy Points : Anxious, critical, controlling, dogmatic, inflexible, judgmental, overly serious, obsessive-compulsive
Vice/Virtue : Anger/Serenity
Stress Point : Suffer and feel misunderstood
Secure Point : Becomes playful, less perfectionist; relaxed

Mel Flores
