Call to Arms Speech by Leader Rophelle Louie Ocampo - Travel and see the World

Call to Arms Speech: Explore Dream Discover
A pleasant night to all of you dear classmates and Professor Jorge…
“The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page” – Saint Augustine
If there is one advocacy in life that I would like to share to all of you is to enjoy more out of life. And what better way to do it is to travel and travel more. Go to places that you’ve never gone before, let life show you opportunities you could ever imagine.
Traveling is beneficial in so many ways. It creates wonderful memories that you can share with your friend and families for a lifetime. Allow me to share the benefits that traveling which led me to discovering more of myself.
Traveling and escaping once in a while from work, home, and your usual routine are beneficial for your mind and body. It also gives you the hunger to travel to more destinations, experience different culture, eat different kinds of food, and meet new people. As Tim Cahill, a travel writer said, “A journey is best measured in friends, rather than miles.”
Traveling has helped me find a new purpose. A quote from Danny Kaye, an American Actor “To travel is to take a journey into yourself” in travelling you will learn new things, discover different insights, and see the world in another perspective. It will also help you sharpen your mind because travelling is not your everyday routine.
Traveling has helped me appreciate our country, on how we are blessed and realized that home is more than just where we grew up. I have seen different places, some were visually appealing, and some are visually heartbreaking. As a traveller, having seen these places made me thankful and aware that some of these places need our help. Samuel Johnson, an essayist and literary historian once said, “All travel has its advantages. If the passenger visits better countries, he may learn to improve his own. And if fortune carries him to worse, he may learn to enjoy it” quoting a Chinese writer, linguist, and inventor, Lin Yutang, “No one realizes how beautiful it is to travel until he comes home and rests his head on his old familiar pillow”.
Traveling has helped me to realize the beauty of life, it has made me appreciate spending time with family and discover the surprises a place has to offer locally and abroad. It helped me realized that the life and the place we live in is a wonderful gift from God. His creations are beautiful for every one of us to enjoy.
Today, traveling need not to be expensive. There are a lot of budget airlines offering very affordable rates. You just have to be resourceful. Travel today! There is no better time to go and explore than the present. Take the risk, seize the opportunity. With oil prices frequently increases the cheap travel era might be coming to an end.
“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing” from American educator and humanitarian, Helen Keller Y.O.L.O. - You only live once as they say, take action why you are still alive and with lots of energy rather than having regrets when you are already on your wheelchair. It is better to have said I’m happy I did it rather than regret and be saying I wish I had. “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain
To start your journey as a traveler, I encourage you to explore our country first. “Huwag maging dayuhan sa sariling bayan” Many of us Filipinos are so amazed with what other country has to offer. Some even knows a lot more of other countries than his own. Discover the unique beauty of our 7,107 islands. Appreciate the different cultures and great hospitality that we Filipinos are known for. Discover the Philippines. Be proud of your country.
Ending my speech is a quote from Miriam Beard, “Travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep, and permanent, in the ideas of living”.
To travel, don’t be a tourist be a traveler…

Thank you.

  1. Agree with the "wag maging dayuhan sa sariling bayan". Its a shame that foreigners appreciate our country more or has travelled to various locations in the Philippines compared to Filipinos. The funny thing is that i am one of those people who has not travelled more in the PH. Ive ben to a lot of countries around the world but i can only count the places ive been in PH.

Im from the North, but i've never been to Pagudpud and Anguib Beach (Sta. Ana Cagayan). I havent been to Baler or to Puerto Princesa. or even to Bohol. Not even Mt. Pinatubo which is an hour away from Clark!

What im saying is, im missing a lot by not checking this out... We should be helping our local tourism... and thru facebook sharing and other digital platforms, we can share to the whole world how beautiful our people and country....

    Appreciated.
