One area where Ateneo Loyola try to be good at is at Social Entrepreneurship.  It is a segment of service where the need is at its deepest, and which neither the civil society (including the religious) try to avoid and turn a blind eye too. It is something that the govt does not want to look into or does not have the capability to look into.

Thus, the poor and the destitute, and the street children have to fend for themselves.  In other countries, these are the areas handled by Yakuza or Mafia (in terms of economy, politics and society

One such example of social entrepreneurship is the work of Mother Teresa in Calcutta, where she took care of the sick and dying in the streets of Calcutta.  She organized a movement to take care of this uncared for dregs of society and the rest is history.  Such is her influence that even her personal physician Dr. Devi Shetty is in the service of many who cant afford medical care. as surgery and dialysis.

If given more opportunity  to build more wealth, and more years to live: I plan to:

     I want to go a step further by collaborating with health care practitioners, former MBAH students and even former Sec. of Health Manuel Dayrit to help make the 90 % of the population gain access to expensive health procedures.

2.  Establish a foundation that will take care of :

    1. Helping those who need medical procedures or diagnosis

    2.  Who can give instant help to those who need:

         1.  who need fares to get back to their home provicne

         2.  have a meal for the day;

    Hi Prof. Thank you for being an advocate of Social Entrepreneurship (SE). You are inspiring a lot of leaders to do the same. SE may sound new to many, in fact it sounds new to me but I am happy to know that this concept exists. Many people are self-centered, but very amazing to know that more and more are becoming selfless and concerned about finding solutions to social problems. While conventional entrepreneurs' main focus is profit/return, social entrepreneurs take into account positive return to society. Just like you Prof, I also look forward to get myself involved in SE activities. Thanks Prof for sharing. I believe that God blesses the generous and selfless people like you. God bless your SE activities!

    Prof, thank you so much po for sharing with us what Social Entrepreneurship is really all about. I believe it goes hand in hand with Leadership. Together, if both applied, we can make a difference in our society!

  3. One of the major reason Walmart survived recession is their CSR projects. They were one of the first to donate on the victims of Katrina Hurricane. They emerge from the recession stronger.
    As a small business owner, it does not excuse us from doing something for our community. My small business, Rainforest Resort, sponsored a teen basketball team – giving these under privileged boys a productive use for their time versus turning to drugs or crime.
    Mother Theresa and Mahatma Gandhi are my biggest heroes.

    1. Thank you Ate Cora! They were good kids. At the start of the games I challenged them, I told them if they became champions, we would be happy to sponsor them again next year. And they won all games :). I think I was also the loudest cheerleader during their games.

    My little involvement with the Social Action Center of Pampanga (SACOP), the service arm of the Archdiocese of San Fernando Pampanga, exposed me to the varied ways by which the Catholic Church puts into action the Social Teachings of the Church. SACOP has gone a long way. It is into Alay Kapwa (Medical, Dental, Scholarships), Community Building and Services, Livelihood Programs, Resettlement and Housing Programs, Training and Development, etc...I hope that these programs will continue to be sustainable in order to get closer to SACOP's vision of "Fullness of Life for God's People in Pampanga".
