Davao City Mayor Rody Duterte as the 3rd Credible Presidential Candidate

'Quamplurimi et quam aptissimi" (As many as possible of the very best)

From Philstar  - Duterte and Cayetano proclaimed Pres and VP aspirants by PDP Laban

City Davao Mayor Rodolfo Duterte and Senator Peter Alan Cayetano were proclaimed by PDP Laban as President and VP aspirants Monday afternoon (November 30, 2015) in Manila (Century Park Sheraton)  The endorser said  that Duterte is the strongest candidate so far.  (It would seem to me that the proclamation is dramatic because they timed it on Bonifacio day.  Remember Ninoy used Marcial Bonifacio as an alias when he returned to the Philippines, in order to get a passport)

Comelec Chief said that substitution for the PDP Laban bet Dino by Duterte is legal.   Former Comelec Chairman Brillantes sees no legal impediment to the Dino substitution. He said that substitution can be allowed if the candidate comes from the same party, if the candidate is disqualified or withdraws.  Dino and Duterte come from PDP Laban

Duterte in Taglish opening speech mentioned the following:

1.  He is endorsing a Federal Govt to get Mindanao mode. The Eastern and Western Mindanao factions of Muslims (being Sunni and Shiite) cant be together as is being done now.

2. Codify, set our economic basics in order.  He would like to see a more efficient govt, with minimum fuss and delays

3.  He repeated his dislike for having an American for president.

His speech was riddled by PI and the network had to apologize for the expletives.

While this was going on, there was  forum for VP candidates in UP featuring VP aspirants Senator Chiz Escudero and Cong Leni Robredo.  Sen Escudero answered the questions well and took the opportunity how better he was in accomplishment vs. VP wanna bee Leni.

Duterte had earlier rebuffed offer by Senator Bong2 Marcos to be his running mate (this will give him the vote rich north and CL;  although we do not know what game is playing.  He were lulled into believing he would not run.  LPs in Mindanao and elsewhere are jumping ship and shifting loyalty Duterte.  It would seem that Duterte is sticking it out with Cayetano because he had said to support the latter.  But in politics where alliances shift, and with Duterte saying he is a liar, we are not sure if he really for Cayetano

His choice for Senatorial Candidates are Manny Pacquiao, Martin Romualdez, Roman Romulo, Sammy Pagilao, Sens. Panfilo Lacson and Miguel Zubiri, former Metro Manila Development Authority Chairman Francis Tolentino, and overseas Filipino workers' advocate Susan Ople.

There objections to Duterte's bid for being a  womanizer (from Rappler) which he admitted, and being accused as a vigilante.  Womanizer, killer, drinker for President? From Philippine Lifestyle. But Leaders of great strength and those who produce results, also have weaknesses. But we should remember that fmr Pres Erap was elected despite being identified with the same weaknesses. Why should Mayor Duterte not go the same way, and for being frank and straightforward with his real him?

What is your comment on Dutertes candidacy?  Are you voting for him?

But I am surprised that in my interviews, many are going to vote for Duterte.   A much better choice over Binay and Roxas. In a SMS survey, Duterte was ahead.

P. S.

His bizarre way of speaking has drawn flaks from social media, especially his P ...I moments, and when he allegedly cursed the Pope.   This drew the ire of many ranking Catholic church leader. Well that is politics, you must gain the support of all sectors, and you cant really be an authentic leader in politics

I am inclined to vote for Duterte for the reason being that the Philippines is a country not ready for a democracy. We do not have the discipline required to run a democratic country. An iron fist could be beneficial for us if only to instill the discipline required moving forward.

Not for anything else, but I think Duterte is the only candidate who acknowledges outright what the country's problems are, whereas the rest are harping on promises of a better whatever, but what we fail to realize is that we will never maximize the potential of these growth opportunities if we do not fix the current problems we are facing, even the most basic ones.
