MM Leadership Call To Arms by Leader Anna Choco

Magandang gabi Prof Jorge and to all of you, Leaders.
Tonight, I would like to take this opportunity to reach out and let everyone know our company's viewpoint on the recent Torre de Manila; a 49-storey condominium project located in Ermita, Manila.  I am here not to defend DMCI Homes, but I am here to make a point as one of the leaders of the company. It is my responsibility to stand on what I believe in, to share the knowledge that will benefit others as well as those people affected by the proposed urban renewal.
To begin with, let me read a quote from John Maxwell; an American author and pastor who has written many books primarily on leadership.  "People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care".  We care about the people.  We care about the environment. We developed TDM to help address the need for middle income housing and urban renewal in the city of Manila.  Majority of our clients are working professionals and young families.  The proximity of TDM gives them the convenience, security and quality of life that they deserve.  Our future residents do not need to suffer the traffic that we cannot resolve until now.  No need for the long commutes going to work or university around the area.  Within the project are amenities for relaxation and enjoyment which we all need after a day's work.
Can Heritage and progress go together?
Many major cities all over the world have built around their monuments. It was proven that old and new can go together, that heritage does not hamper progress.
Being one of the most populated cities in the Philippines, Manila must build upwards to solve its growing population. The alternative is to remain as it is and stagnate or be left behind.
Ano kinalaman ng TDM sa Leadership?
I learned a lot from the project though hindi ako ang may hawak ng proyekto. But let me share to you two things I learned from it:
1.  Think Outside The Box
Great leaders challenge the status quo.  They always find new and better ways of doing or making things.  We need to be creative. We need to teach ourselves to look at problems effusively. If we can achieve a win-win solution, the better.
2.  Listen More Than You Talk.
Leaders are lifelong learners.  Trial and error will drive us far.  Kung magkamali ka, ok lang yun dahil kaya ka nagkamali dahil may bago kang ginawa na kakaiba sa nakararami.  Most of the time, you can gain more and learn more if we observe and listen to others.
I highly believe in our company, DMCI Homes and its Values.  Just to share it with you:
1. Integrity
All our actions are guided by what is ethical, fair and right.  Believing in profit with honor, we are committed to good governance and the highest moral standards.
2. Excellence
We reject mediocrity and strive for excellence in even the smallest details.
3. Interdependence
With unity and purpose and mutual trust and respect for other, we work toward shared aspirations and transcend boundaries along functional and organizational lines.
Final word for TDM and Leadership:
View is subjective.  It is just a matter of perspective.

Thank you Everyone.

  1. I engage with DMCI in some co-marketing projects the last 4 years. Marketing peeps at DMCI have this strong sense of accountability. Somewhat inate to company's culture of malasakit and oneness.
The pains of Torre De Manila is one big hurdle DMCI will overcome. This will truly make the advocacy of OneDMCI even stronger.
